“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.” (Hebrews 9:27-28)
1 ACRE COST BREAKDOW FOR ONION FARMING IN KENYA 2024.
In 2024, the estimated cost of starting onion farming on one acre in Kenya using basin irrigation amounts to approximately KES 248,500.
This includes a land lease averaging KES 15,000, irrigation setup at KES 65,000, and soil analysis costing KES 4,500.
Quality hybrid seeds (1.5kg) are priced at KES 40,000, while nursery establishment and sowing cost KES 2,500 and KES 2,000 respectively.
Managing the nursery, which includes weeding and spraying, is estimated at KES 18,000. Land preparation will cost around KES 16,000, and transplanting the seedlings takes up KES 24,000.
For proper plant nutrition, fertilizer application is budgeted at KES 26,000. Weed control through selective herbicides and labor amounts to KES 4,500, while spraying against pests and diseases is estimated at KES 15,000 for the full season.
Ongoing irrigation throughout the growing period is expected to cost about KES 15,000, and harvesting labor is projected at KES 5,000. Overall, with a 5-month growing cycle, farmers can expect yields between 10 to 17 tons per acre, with market prices ranging from KES 50 to 120 per kg, resulting in a potential return on investment (ROI) of KES 600,000 to 2 million, making onion farming a highly profitable venture if managed well.
Today, 69 B2R Farms Fellows are stationed in local sectors across Rwanda. Each incoming group of Fellows undergoes intensive Foundations for Farming training at B2R Farms' Land of Goshen, where they develop their skills as farm managers and FFF Trainers.

Our experience has confirmed that, when FFF is applied consistently, input & labor costs are lower. We work our farms largely by hand and use specific crop row layouts with precise measurements to minimize inputs and maximize outputs. https://t.co/kzpn2v86PU
Our newest demo farm, "Land of Goshen," was named after land located in ancient Egypt on the east side of the Nile Delta, historically known as a safe and fertile place where God protected His people. We look forward to the impact B2R Farms' Land of Goshen will have in Rwanda!
As the government encourages us to continue planting fruit trees to combat malnutrition in the country, we have prepared healthy seedlings for you! 🌱
All species are available. Book yours today!
