I sat watching local news at the hotel lobby in Tulsa one night trying to get a feel for what it would be like to live there.
There is a longer post to be written about Deep Travel, but part of it is trying to understand the lives of people who live there.
Wife and I had a 4 hour layover at Heathrow months after our trip and the feeling of being in the UK was palpable even in those 4 hours, even at the airport.
My favorite memory was a security guy starting his new shift walking over with:
"Right lads, lets do this!"
Landing at Heathrow is rather telling of what London has become. It feels less like arriving in a national capital and more like stepping into a global transit hub. No real sense of being in England or a shared culture welcoming you home. This is what a hollowed-out state looks like.
