अर्थ-समुद्र में वर्षा व्यर्थ है। तृप्त को भोजन कराना व्यर्थ है। धनी को दान देना व्यर्थ है और दिन में दीपक जलाना व्यर्थ है। तात्पर्य यह है कि जहाँ जिसकी आवश्यकता न हो वहाँ वह कर्म नही करने चाहिए।
