We think we need things we don’t actually need. Sometimes it is an item. Sometimes it is an out of date status quo. Sometimes it’s a judgement for someone else or for ourselves. I’m no genius.. but the only true thing we need is love in all forms: self and other.
If you are able to lay down incorrect information from yesterday and replace it will accurate information emotionally, intellectually, and in practice today.. you are a day closer and step closer to you being truly enlightened and inclusive of yourself and others.
I hope that the person on the bus, the person at the doctor’s office, the person at the funeral, the ball game, the post office... wherever.. hears one of my tunes (either performed by me or not) and says.. “Wow.. humanity is in this. They understand me a little bit.” That.
You see so many representations of art everywhere. As an artist.. you wonder.. where do I fit in? Not there. Not over there. Not there either..
But you do fit in right where you are at or wherever you are going. Authenticity is the door you should walk through.
It’s really wild. We are in the predicament of the physical and the spiritual. Our bodies need calories to survive and complex nutrients. Our hearts and minds also need this. It’s really wild to me. The separation of the two but also the duality of them.
Don’t play the only part you’ve ever known. Change the script. You are the director. You are the actor. You are the cinematographer. You are in the driver’s seat for your own experience. Get out of the comfort zone.
You are a work in progress. Every single day. You continue to better yourself. Better your kindness. Extinguish your ego. Continue doing the work every single day. You are in constant creation. And love yourself because of that.
Dear Breonna Taylor, I haven’t forgotten about you or that you were murdered by Myles Cosgrove, Brett Hankinson and Jonathan Mattingly. You deserve justice and I vow to keep using my voice so that others won’t forget. #JusticeForBreonna
Breaking my twitter silence to share some beauty. This was one of my final texts from the brilliant & once-in-lifetime talent, @chadwickboseman - take this in & celebrate life. He knew how precious every moment was. Tonight the Heavens received one of its most powerful angels.
The passing of Chadwick Boseman is tough. This is a man who represented those who were constantly not represented in such a way that made who he is, who he represented, and who the human population is notice with grief beyond words. RIP Chadwick.
