Oh, this is unbelievable. The edit history on this tweet shows that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif originally copied and pasted everything he was sent, including:
"*Draft - Pakistan's PM Message on X*"
Now, obviously, Sharif's own staff don't call him "Pakistan's PM," they would just call him prime minister. The U.S. and Israel, of course, would call him "Pakistan's PM."
Would be funny if the fate of the world wasn't hanging in the balance.
I'm convinced that the only reason this country even exists is that nature has been relatively kind to us. Sri Lankans are catastrophically bad at forward planning for resource management.
I know everyone only cares about the lates fuel crisis in SL right now.
But this right here below is a great example of the rot in the system: the complete inability to plan, competently manage resources or prudent financial management.
The TH-57 is a heli which entered into service in 1968. Let me repeat that -1968 !! - We are grateful and excited for getting a donation of 60 yr old hardware.
The SL MoD budget is ~$1.5bn per year. Since the war ended - total MoD budget has been ~$20 Billion. And yet we are excited and grateful to receive 10 heli's which have a market value of ~ c $10 million.
The TH-57 was sunsetted by the US Navy in 2010 - cos its too old - the airframes are way too old. The - 57 is the mil version of the Bell JetRangers - mkt val of $300-700k - SL AF could have even purchased those and upgraded them. Or SL AF could have looked at the civilian version of the TH-73 (the latest variant which the US navy is purchasing at ~$5m/heli) - and upgrading that. Which would be a modern 21st C aircraft. Or SL AF could have looked at China and India - and got cheaper hardware with plenty of cheap spares and a clear supply chain.
Its not the just the upfront cost. We are buying 60 yr old hardware that the USN has discontinued - so any spares and maintenance will be 10x cost. And the heli was discontinued cos it's 'mission availability rate' was <60% - aka it breaks down. A lot. So the actual TCO 'total cost of ownership' of this "donation, over next 20 years, will probably be 3-5x over SL MoD purchasing proper, modern, fit for use, aircraft.
These pre-historic aircraft (they literally came out when propellor planes were still flying!) will burn SL tax payer money, waste fuel, put pilots lives at risk.
Bottom line - GoSL And MoD have not been able to - over 15 years - plan, fund and purchase 10 simple helicopters even with a total budget of USD $20 billion and 1000's of people in the various ministries that probably 'planned' this purchase.
Humanity !

Appreciated His priceless social work
@NewsWireLK This leopard has been there for more than a year. There was one before Ritta as well. This is news simply bcoz SP had the chance to see it. (He wouldnt even see this if he wasnt avoiding yala after the controversial video of his jeep blocking the road with a dog close by)
This morning, I crossed the road with a father carrying his little one on his shoulders. At one point, he broke into a run—late for school, a bag of tools swinging in his hand. Maybe he makes 3–4K a day. No car. No bike. Just his shoulders carrying his world.
