On June 19, 1865, African American communities in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom from slavery — two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation took effect.
For 161 years, Juneteenth has been a day of remembrance for the freedom that was delayed. It is also a celebration of the joy and resilience that flourished despite that delay.
The contributions of African Americans, whose struggle for freedom shaped our nation, are immeasurable. Yet too many Black families continue to bear the brunt of an affordability crisis that has pushed them out of the neighborhoods and communities they've built.
True freedom has a tangible impact on daily life: the ability to afford housing, earn a living wage, put food on the table, support a family, and create a future for generations to come.
As we celebrate today, we must recommit ourselves to ensuring this freedom is fully realized.
Happy Juneteenth, New York City.
Bobby Moynihan says he worked on ‘HOPPERS’ for four years and did not feel safe until the end.
“[I] never thought I was safe. Two weeks before release, I literally called Daniel and was like, ‘If you recast this, I won’t hate you. I understand.’”
Just reached Ace’s introduction with my gf and I’m gonna show her how he looks in current One Piece style to slowly start planting the seeds in her head that will manipulate her into having no reason to believe he will ever die, making Marineford all the worse #malemanipulator
How men respond to this is definitely a litmus test. If you think he "deserved" her bc he did a basic kindness for a *childhood* friend, you don't see women as people.
WHY IS THIS JUST THE EXPECTED NORM NOW
NOTHING HAS EVEN DONE THIS BEFORE
WHY DO PEOPLE THINK THIS IS EVEN SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS AT ALL LET ALONE WILL HAPPEN FOR ONE OF THE FEW THINGS THAT ACTUALLY ENDED GOOD IN RECENT MEMORY
Just because a woman is nice to you or you did something for her doesn’t mean she owes you anything. That’s called consent. Not obligation. Hope that helps.
