A scorched earth 🔥policy for driven grouse shooting! AND killing stoats, weasels, raptors, crows, hedgehogs, badgers, foxes, pine marten, hares... so a few can shoot grouse for fun during a climate & biodiversity emergency is MADNESS! Nothing #glorious here.
“30 million birds have vanished from our skies in the last 50 years—97% of wildflower meadows have been eradicated since the 1930s—and a quarter of all mammals are at risk of extinction. You’d think this would send alarm bells ringing in the corridors of power, but it isn’t. The public are tired of paper thin promises—we need new environmental laws—and it’s why I’m asking @RishiSunak to deliver the #naturepositive future he’s promised by backing the Climate & Ecology Bill.”—@BirdgirlUK

Where are the trees?
We have A LOT of this landscape and less than 4% native woodland. This landscape should be a rich mosaic of habitats, moor, bog, woodland, montane scrub… We force it to remain in this artificial state. We don’t need to give every inch of our uplands over to sheep, grouse and deer stalking. If we are serious about reversing biodiversity loss then we urgently need to choose a different path.
“Years of warnings that were ignored or kept secret. Promises made, but not delivered. Dodgy behaviour, undermining public confidence. Brutal funding cuts. Wilful neglect.” - @tanya_plibersek

Victoria bans #gas connections in new homes from 2024. Planning permits will only allow connections to all-electric networks in 2024, a major move for the state with highest residential gas use in Australia. https://t.co/8ojnSa5MI6
July 2023 is set to be the hottest month ever recorded.
The consequences are tragic:
Children swept away by monsoon rains.
Families running from the flames.
Workers collapsing in scorching heat.
No more hesitancy or excuses.
#ClimateAction - now.

Record high temps, record low sea ice.
The Govt must show leadership by actually listening to scientists. They talk a big game while subsidising gas & approving new coal mines 🤯
This is about acting to protect all the people & places we love.

The effects of global heating are more severe than scientists expected - and they’ll almost certainly get much worse still, the UN’s former climate change chief. Prof Bob Watson told me. He said extreme weather events at 1.2C will be dwarfed as the world heats more.
A very important article in BBC News about use of state security police and laws to suppress climate protest in #auspol Australia.
AUS govt is presenting image internationally of re-engaging on climate action, in reality is supporting more coal and gas. https://t.co/7iXhJ9ZsPn
The media is covering climate more but they are still nervous of telling the full truth: we are gambling with our entire civilisation, as David Attenborough warns here. This is a full blown global emergency and we have to declare it and act like it
Those radical hippy, lentil-weaving, eco-commies at the *checks notes* Office for Budgetary Responsibility have concluded it'll cost a lot more to remain reliant on fossil fuels than it'll cost to decarbonise. https://t.co/DI2CYN2oZm
