In 2025, Ethiopia launched "Ethiopia Tamirt" initiative (Made in Ethiopia) which was meant to drive production and consumption of Ethiopian made products.
The initiative saw over 750 industries entering into manufacturing and attracted massive support from Ethiopians.

From the initiative, Ethiopia has saved $4.85 billion in imports and manufacturing sector has grown jumped from 4.8% to 13% in nine months.

In Ethiopia, where fewer than half of adults are banked, digital financial services hold the most direct path into the formal economy. But the tools only work when people understand them, and understanding has to happen in the language people actually live in.

As part of the AKOFADA (Advancing Knowledge on Financial Accessibility and DFS Adoption) Project, we are publishing the DFS-Focused Finance Glossary in Afaan Oromoo, the second edition in our localization series, following the Amharic glossary released earlier this year.

The glossary translates core digital finance terms and concepts, from everyday concepts like mobile money, bill payments, and wallets, to more technical ones like credit scoring, interoperability, and payment system operators, into clear, culturally grounded Afaan Oromoo. Each entry includes a translation, a plain-language description, and a real-world example to make the concept stick.

It's built for everyone the digital finance ecosystem is meant to serve: banking professionals, policymakers, DFS providers, and the Afaan-Oromoo-speaking communities across Oromia whose financial lives are increasingly shaped by these services, and who deserve to understand them.

Dangote Gets Hero’s Welcome in Ethiopia, Raises Investment to $4bn

President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, received a warm welcome in Gode, Ethiopia, where he was hosted by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed.
Both leaders visited the site of the proposed fertiliser plant to assess ongoing construction. Ethiopia had signed a shareholders’ agreement with Dangote Group in August last year to establish a urea plant with a capacity of three million metric tonnes annually.
Dangote announced an increase in investment from $2.5 billion to over $4 billion, reflecting expanded scope, including a 110km pipeline, a 120MW power plant, a polypropylene packaging facility, and a two-million-tonne NPK blending plant.
Prime Minister Abiy described the project as a strategic initiative to boost agriculture, enhance food security, and reduce import dependence. He noted steady construction progress and expressed confidence in its impact on farmers, job creation, and economic growth.
The project reinforces Dangote Group’s commitment to industrial development across Africa.
