Für mich einer der stärksten Anrufe, die es je im ARD-#Presseclub gab. Rainer, 73 Jahre alt. Seine Großmutter war Jüdin, sein Großvater preußischer Kommunist. Die Gestapo zertrümmerte seinem Großvater im Gefängnis die Knochen, weil er Mitglied der Roten Hilfe war. Rainer erinnert daran, dass jeder Mensch das Recht auf einen Anwalt hat. Auch politisch Unbequeme. Und dass genau das kein Skandal, sondern ein Grundprinzip des Rechtsstaats ist. Dann spricht er über den wachsenden Antisemitismus und sagt: „Es ist nicht die Berliner Linke, die den Antisemitismus beflügelt. Sondern die verbrecherische Regierung des israelischen Staates.“ Und fordert, endlich auch über Netanyahu und dessen rechtsextreme Regierungsmitglieder zu sprechen. 73 Jahre Lebenserfahrung. Eine Familiengeschichte, die unter die Haut geht. Und eine Klarheit, die ich in dieser ganzen aufgeheizten Debatte viel zu oft vermisse.

The confrontation begins when you start building.

An African Central Bank. Independent reserves. African security structures.

Gaddafi was attempting to turn Pan Africanism from a speech into material power.

In 2008, Muammar Gaddafi achieved something extraordinary in the history of Africa’s relationship with its former colonial powers.

Italy was compelled to confront the crimes of its colonial occupation of Libya and accept material responsibility for that history.

The agreement was much bigger than the famous $5 billion figure.

Italy committed $5 billion for major infrastructure projects over twenty years. But the settlement also included treatment in Italy for Libyan victims of colonial mines, scholarships for Libyan students, the restoration of pensions to eligible Libyans and their heirs, the return of manuscripts and archaeological treasures taken during colonialism, housing initiatives, demining and rehabilitation programmes.

This was not symbolism.

Gaddafi understood that colonialism could not be answered merely with an apology. If colonial occupation produced material destruction, dispossession and suffering, then historical responsibility also had to acquire a material form.

For Africa, the lesson remains important.

The former coloniser did not simply say: we are sorry.

It was made to answer for the past.

That is what political power and historical memory can achieve when a nation negotiates from a position of sovereignty.

Yemen's Ansarallah cuts Taiz–Aden supply route, tightens encirclement of Taiz

The Ansarallah-led Yemeni Armed Forces have reportedly seized the Al-Safiya area and cut the main supply road linking Taiz with Aden, effectively tightening the encirclement of Taiz city, according to AFP, citing four security sources.

A local police source told AFP that Ansarallah also took control of the area's police station, while three Yemeni military sources confirmed the group's control of both the area and the key supply route. Fighting in the area remains ongoing.

The advance follows days of heavy clashes between Ansarallah and Saudi-backed government forces around Taiz.

Although the city remains under Saudi-backed government control, it has long been besieged from the north, east, and west and remains one of the main front lines in Yemen's war, which reignited in July after several years of relative calm.
