Went through 4 perp DEXs onchain after the Binance hack: Lighter (~$1B), Hyperliquid (~$6.5B), Aster (~$500M) and Variational (~$290M).

If their own systems got hacked like Binance's, only one of them would stop the attacker from pulling your balance out. https://t.co/KNr3IFhEMx

CLOB Based Lending

In this piece we discuss how lending markets are evolving from pooled liquidity to CLOB-based architectures.

The same transition that transformed onchain trading is now coming for credit markets.

Gelora (@0xJaehaerys) has been selected for @OctantApp Epoch 9.

Ethereum comes from the cypherpunk tradition: move trust from institutions to public verification through cryptography. It began as a world computer, matured into a world ledger, and is converging toward a verifiable internet - an open substrate where data, computation, and agreements are independently checkable.

This transition is broad. It spans protocol upgrades and client diversity, rollups and data availability, proof systems and cryptography, MEV and market design, privacy and security, governance and culture. The pace is high; the incentives are mixed; context is easily lost. Our job is to keep the map clear.

Purpose

Produce research that is technically accurate, historically grounded, and accessible to developers, researchers, and the public. Explain technologies clearly, map actors and incentives, connect engineering with governance and culture, and adjust scope as needs change. Operate as a flexible team that adapts methods, formats, and timelines to the work.

Principles:
- Openness: Research outputs are public and reusable.
- Independence: No outside funding, no paid narratives, clear conflict‑of‑interest policy.
- Neutral tone: Describe what is happening; avoid promotion.
- Verification: Prefer artifacts that others can test, run, or check.

Work under Octant

- Long‑form analyses that connect engineering choices to incentives and outcomes.
- Concise explainers that preserve accuracy for broader readers.
- Diagrams, datasets, and small tools/dashboards that make mechanisms visible.
- An open knowledge base (index of sources, timelines, glossaries) for reuse by the community.
- Clear change‑logs; corrections when we are wrong.

Ethereum is still becoming. Our responsibility is to observe carefully, reason clearly, and leave a trace others can verify.
