What's the meaning of life? Philosophy, religion and science are all running out of time to address this question. As artificial intelligence and biotechnology give humans the power to reshape and re-engineer life, somebody will soon have to decide how to use this power – based on some story about the meaning of life. Philosophers are very patient people, but engineers are far less patient, and investors are the least patient of all. If you don’t know what to do with the power to engineer life, the invisible hand of the market will soon force upon you its own blind reply. Unless we're happy to entrust the future of life to the mercy of quarterly revenue reports, we need a clear idea what life is all about.

What can jazz bands teach us about creating a team environment where everyone can contribute & flourish & the team can perform its very best work? A jazz band culture means:
1) Individual responsibility: everyone understands their role & is prepared to jump in to support others.
2) Mutual trust: everyone knows they have each other’s backs.
3) Adaptability: members create as they play & build on each other’s notes.
4) Experimental and learning mindsets: all team members value & respect this.
5) Deep listening and responsiveness: everyone is aware of who's playing what & what each person contributes to the whole.
6) Creativity and improvisation: based on core competencies.

Reparations for global climate justice?
In this new paper we quantify the compensation that over-emitting countries may owe to the rest of the world for the appropriation of atmospheric commons. Out today in Nature Sustainability, with the brilliant @AndrewLFanning. 🧵
NASA is now claiming an "urgency to establish humanity as a multi-planet species." I think the greater urgency is to represent future generations' interests more fully in governance systems. @futuregencymru#seedweek#fridayfuturesinsight https://t.co/poCQwuQxWX
Thought-provoking resources from #beyondtherules. What changes in organisational culture might emerge if 'public good' organisations positioned themselves as 'stewards' rather than 'owners' of IPR in employment contracts - i.e. on behalf of their employees, creators and mission?
“Contracts can reinforce or undermine the culture you want to create” as @AnnetteDhami@DarkMatter_Labs clearly articulated earlier today. And what a fab resource for all of us to reimagine our contracts has emerged from this work #beyondtherules https://t.co/tNlCuOrxxG
This graphic illustrates the different dimensions to a transition in a complex adaptive system, based on the Multi-level perspective and three horizons model. Find the full canvas here: https://t.co/hOkmOrED1V
✨BIG NEWS✨ Enrol Yourself is now Huddlecraft: an ecosystem of support for peer-led learning and action.
Today is the day we emerge with our new name & identity. Here's a 🧵 giving you a sneak peek...
Touched to discover @innocent keep an empty chair at the table to represent interests of non-human beings in their decisions. Exactly the values shift we discussed in our sustainable futures game last night. What an inspiring #bcorp practice. @cransustgroup#explore2050
When we visit the future with curiosity, there is a lot we can learn to inspire us in the present. Immerse yourself in these possible futures and #explore2050 with us! We are at @edie Sustainable Leaders Forum at 17:00 today! #SLF2022#ScenarioExploration#SeriousGames
Excited to #explore2050 with @CranfieldUni@edie today at 5.00. Online and in-person, please join us to feel and live unfolding futures. Learn how we can participate in successful carbonisation pathways.

Wow. @solarpunk_girl invites us to access future possibilities by sensing and feeling them, rather than purely rationalising them. Sending kudos for this beautiful articulation of what's missing, and invitation to embrace it. #moralimagination#citizenshift
@Ashden_org : our air-con addiction ignores needs of people living in extreme temps who can't afford it. Indigenous tech/ nature-based solutions have avoided heat for centuries. Passive cooling that learns from past is major opp for #ClimateJustice#COP26 https://t.co/lrH2ylIymc
Spot on! @Ashden_org at @COP26
"We need to make sustainable cooling a development priority if we are going to encourage others to bring the finance to this specific issue; if we don’t, is going to be a huge hole in the world carbon budget and also a massive equity issue."
Unless we achieve immediate, drastic, unprecedented, annual emission cuts at the source then that means we’re failing when it comes to this climate crisis.
“Small steps in the right direction”, “making some progress” or “winning slowly” equals loosing.

@valuesandframes article suggests we are polluting ourselves & society by harness values for inauthentic purposes. Nails my discomfort with #brandpurpose & many FMCG #sustainablebrands that are actually #toxicmimics of our values in action https://t.co/EpNmZZrTih
