I'm not sure that an "inability to speak fluently" is a barrier to progress. Rather, I think the barrier is typically people in positions of relative power rigidly insisting that others adhere to "standard" (i e. neurotypical, white, middle-class...) forms of communication...

@LauraRoseSLT there are some short stories included with Tactus Advanced reading therapy. Alternatively, I've used News In Levels/ESL resources for reading practice. QuickRead useful as a higher level reading resource. Cuespeak scripting module would allow you to create a story then read aloud
