This is happening in South Jersey, Rockland and Orange counties in New York, and probably elsewhere. Hasidic families have many children, while most people around them have few or none. Over time their population grows, taking more space, while everyone else shrinks or stays the same. Project this out 20, 50, or 100 years: there will be large areas populated only by Hasidic Jews, living in a culture with little to no interaction with others.
No judgment, I don’t necessarily have an issue with this. But demographics are real, and that’s why birth rates matter. “The future belongs to those who show up for it.”
@allie__voss My issue with non-religious weddings is that a purely secular one is no different from a breakable business contract. Vows before God create something no man can destroy. Different level of commitment
Everyone who lifts lighter than me is a fool, wasting their energy for no gains. Everyone who lifts heavier than me is an ego lifting idiot with no range of motion who will get hurt for no gains. Amazing how I’m the only one doing it right
Went on a Hinge date. Failed the ethically loaded impossible question of “would you choose to have a child with a learning disability?” My answer of “I would love them, but I would choose for my children to be as capable as possible” was not accepted. I am not made for dating!
@nytimes@TheAthletic@grok how many helicopter crashes are there per year? How risky is it for LeBron to be traveling via helicopter as compared to a car?
I find people who talk about their fake TikTok-tistic “stims” really distasteful. A family member of mine has a severe mental disability and is a large, nonverbal adult man. He regularly does actual stims, including flapping his arms, making loud snorting, clicking, and laughing noises, and repeatedly asking for the same thing via loud monosyllabic grunts. These involuntary sounds and movements make it hard for him to be out in the world, as they scare people and draw unwanted attention. He is exactly the kind of person society does virtually nothing to accommodate. That is not the same as quoting the meme phrase of the week to your friends repeatedly.
I went through this with my wife last year. Months of excruciating pain, limited mobility and disability leave with young kids at home. We lived a nightmare for nearly a year before a complex spinal fusion surgery. They did an amazing job and she has fully recovered and regained her mobility. I know just how scary and hopeless it can feel, and will pray for this family. We prayed to Saint Gemma as well. May she bless them with recovery as she did for us.
Please pray for the repose of the soul of my father in law. He passed away suddenly earlier this evening. He was a good man, and a tremendous role model for what it means to be a catholic husband and father. He will be missed by so many. Prayers are appreciated
Why is it all of our responsibility to figure out what to do with those kinds of kids? Get them out of the schools as needed, because the duty of society is actually to the much larger number of kids who are not like that.
If that kid gets expelled repeatedly, then they have a choice: go get a job, or (more likely) get into crime and go to jail. It really doesn’t seem complicated to me. We can’t fix people like that, nor should we be expected to. The responsibility is to protect everyone else.
