I’m excited to finally share something I’ve been working on for a while.
Over the course of nearly four decades, I’ve had the opportunity to serve in the military, law enforcement, overseas security and operations, aviation/MEDEVAC, and emergency management. Along the way, I’ve learned that preparedness isn’t about being afraid of what might happen — it’s about having a plan, understanding your options, and being ready to take care of yourself and the people who depend on you.
That experience helped inspire Always Vigilant, and today I’m introducing the first publication in what will become a 15-part Emergency Preparedness Series:
Always Vigilant: Emergency Preparedness Starter Guide — 1 of 15
I wanted this series to be different. It’s being written for everyday people and families — not just emergency managers or hardcore “preppers.” The goal is to take preparedness information, practical experience, lessons learned, checklists, planning tools, equipment guidance, and real-world considerations and put them into something people can actually understand and use.
This first guide is just the beginning. There are 14 additional guides planned, covering family emergency planning, 72-hour and 7-day preparedness, evacuation and bug-out bags, food and water, power outages, communications, shelter-in-place, vehicle preparedness, special-needs planning, pets, severe weather, disaster recovery, and more.
Most importantly, thank you to the friends, family, colleagues, and people I’ve worked alongside over the years who have supported me, taught me, challenged me, and shared experiences that helped shape the way I look at preparedness today. I’ve learned something from a lot of good people along the way, and I’m genuinely grateful.
I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes and, hopefully, helping some families become a little safer and better prepared along the way.
Fail to Prepare, Prepare to Fail.
Always Vigilant. 🛡️🇺🇸
