If she had to yell twice, I was already in trouble.

Our outdoor cat disappeared for three weeks. I told my daughter he wasn't coming back, and I was sure of it.

Then my son opened the door at eleven at night to let the other cat out, and there he was, waiting to come in.

Like he'd stepped out for cigarettes.

I thought I was one of the men.

I am in my fifties now. If that kid showed up today, I wouldn't let him carry a ladder.

@80s_channel Football phone. My stepdad got it free with Sports Illustrated.

The real phone was the kitchen rotary with at least thirty feet of cord. Privacy was however far you could pull it.

The summer I was 17 I drove a 1969 Ford Falcon from Texas to Colorado. I was following my uncle up to frame houses on his crew.

I stopped for gas. He saw me, pulled onto a side street, and waited. I didn't see him pull over, so I finished filling up and took off after him.

120-plus for about half an hour, chasing a man I'd already passed. I could watch the gas gauge drop. I'd just filled it.

Then I figured I'd passed him somewhere. I pulled over under a tree and waited. He rolled up at least twenty minutes later.

I was in a lot of trouble.
