“We are entering a new epoch of crisis, a slow-motion tidal wave of risks that will wash over our economy in the next decades — namely climate change, demographics, deglobalization and artificial intelligence,” Richard Bookstaber writes.

How big was the carbon footprint to build ChatGPT? When ChatGPT’s text is used to build something, who is responsible if/when that text is wrong? This is where we’ll need regulation. 8/8
“Something is coming. We aren’t ready.” Yes, but the thing that’s coming isn’t Skynet. There are ethical, technological, and environmental concerns about how GPT and other large language models are constructed and made available. 7/8
The pace & scale of #climateaction is insufficient to tackle #climatechange.
In 2018, #IPCC highlighted the scale of the challenge required to keep warming to 1.5°C. 5 years on, the Synthesis Report shows that the challenge has become even greater.

@PerceptiveAxion @CNN Some oil countries can afford it, but most would definitely try something different if they had the choice. Desalination, at most, is a last-resort solution, because it has way more cons than pros...
@PerceptiveAxion @CNN Well, it's also that it's extremely expensive (yeah, idk why I thought people could care about biodiversity) and the water coming from desalination would be unaffordable for most, and especially to use on culture, unless you want food to be a luxury only for the wealthy
@UberFacts I've always found that so fascinating! I read that it might be that hearing voices is seen as a positive or even spiritual experience in some cultures, rather than a symptom of mental illness
