40 yrs in bioinformatics. Forensic and research DNA. My opinions do not necessarily reflect those of my employer, but under the circumstances, they usually do.
@BushmanMao @catspaw55 @Martina@USAFencing So wait. Are you agreeing with me or disagreeing with me? It's nonsense that height is an unfair advantage in fencing (you agree with me), or nonsense that the main advantage men have is because of being taller on average (you disagree with me)?

A new week. A new month. And the start of a new beginning here at @WHOSTP.
We are excited to officially welcome Dr. Arati Prabhakar as our new Director! 🎉
Today’s #NobelPrize winner Svante Pääbo is a true authority on the study of ancient DNA. He was the first to successfully clone DNA from a mummy, and in 2009, he completed sequencing of the Neanderthal genome (in collaboration with Jim Mullikin @genome_gov!).
Just great to see Svante winning the Nobel Prize. Well deserved and people forget how radical it was to think that one could sequence ancient DNA up to the whole level of genomes - consequences in understanding human evolution has been huge.
Today is #WrongfulConvictionDay. Since 1989, more than 3,200 people have been exonerated in the U.S. Collectively, these individuals spent 27,200+ years in prison for crimes they didn't commit.
Jabir Pope & Albert Brown - who together spent 76 years incarcerated - serenaded the crowd with the soulful anthem they wrote at MCI-Norfolk, "I cry freedom." On #WrongfulConvictionDay, we too cry for freedom for so many. Let's bring them home.
@BeschlossDC A professional diplomat might think not to smile for the camera in this situation. A more experienced foreign leader (I'm not implying a *better* one) might have thought not to announce this visit ahead of time and create extra security risks.
