The global innovation community was in our backyard this month for #WebSummitVancouver, and General Fusion was proud to lead the conversation on the future of energy. 🚀
With our world-first, large-scale Magnetized Target Fusion demonstration machine operating just down the road from the conference, we brought a uniquely Canadian perspective to one of the tech industry’s premier global stages: fusion is happening now, right here in Canada!
From his keynote at the Energy Summit to a fireside chat about our path toward the public markets with @axios National Energy Correspondent Amy Harder, our CEO Greg Twinney and team spotlighted the role fusion energy can play in powering the future.
Today, we announced collaborative work with @GeneralAtomics on advanced diagnostic systems that will prepare General Fusion to accurately measure high plasma temperatures up to and exceeding 10 keV (100 million degrees Celsius) during the second phase of our ongoing LM26 program.
General Atomics is advising on the diagnostic system required for the 10 keV milestone, including advanced tools to measure ion and electron temperature and density. In parallel, General Atomics is reviewing data from ongoing LM26 plasma compressions as General Fusion advances toward its 1 keV (10 million degrees Celsius) milestone, the next milestone on the path to 10 keV.
“Advanced diagnostics are essential to turning fusion experiments into validated engineering approaches that can support commercially relevant fusion systems,” said Wayne Solomon, Vice President of Magnetic Fusion Energy for General Atomics. “General Atomics is proud to bring our decades worth of fusion expertise to this collaboration with General Fusion as the Company advances the LM26 program toward important plasma performance milestones. By connecting high-quality plasma measurements to design validation, this work reflects the kind of technical partnership needed to accelerate the path to practical fusion energy.”

The path to commercializing fusion energy isn’t one we walk alone. Strong partnerships are essential to bringing fusion power to the grid.
In April, we hosted our annual Market Development Advisory Committee (MDAC) meeting—a group of energy industry leaders advising us on the path to commercialization. We welcomed members both in person and virtually, and their insights as potential early adopters play a critical role in our planning as we work toward deploying practical, economical fusion energy.
We were joined by @Renexia_it, @opg , @FortisBC, @DukeEnergy, @SouthernCompany, @_Stegra_ , @ENGIEResources, and others. Several members also had the opportunity to tour our facility and see our operating LM26 machine up close—a highlight of the week and an exciting look at the progress underway!
