The initial injection stings like any other needle. If you have a good doctor, they’ll rub a numbing agent on the injection site first, which makes it a bit more comfortable. During the operation you’ll feel nothing but pressure, like "pushing," but it doesn’t hurt. They are unlikely to use gas unless it is absolutely necessary

As the anesthesia wears off, it’ll start to hurt like a motherfucker, but the pain comes on slowly over a few hours, so you’ll have time to acclimatize to it. It sucks, but it doesn’t shock you (if that makes sense).

The real thing to watch out for is the period right after, when your mouth is still numb. It’s very easy to accidentally bite your cheek or tongue and do some real damage without even realizing it.

You’ll also be hungry right after the procedure because they’ll probably have you on "nil by mouth." Eating solid food while your mouth is still numb is a terrible idea, so I strongly recommend preparing a meal replacement shake (like Huel or Soylent) ahead of time to tide you over until you can actually eat again. (After mine came out I was given vanilla custard, basically anything non solid is good)

Just make sure it’s meant to be served cold because you can easily burn your mouth while it’s still numb.
