It's a product manager's dream with its unparalleled addictiveness (DAU / MAU) of 87% and stickiness (M1 retention) of 86%, both #1 in the world while having the #1 most monthly active users for any non preinstalled app of 2.7B users.

Here are the top 25 most used apps in the world by MAU on both these metrics. Some surprising observations:
— There are now 15 1B+ user apps in the world, 8 by Google, 4 by Meta.
— The 3 that aren't are TikTok, Telegram (!) and ChatGPT
— Telegram has more users than Spotify, Pinterest, Netflix, Amazon, Snap!
— ChatGPT's one month retention is #5 after WA, Instagram, Chrome and Youtube. 2yrs ago, it was been #20 by M1 retention
— Shopee, a shopping app in southeast Asia, is huge and retains users better than Amazon!

Useful way to break down consumer businesses especially within certain categories (X vs Reddit vs Threads is a good one). It's shocking how few new apps have been able to break through in the past 10yrs.

Bytedance is dropping the best video gen model in the world in early July: Seedance 2.5!

The video below (audio on) is the launch video from their Volcano Engine conference this week. It cements China’s absolute dominance in video.

— 2x’d generation length of all previous models to 30s, with audio + 4k video
— >5x’d reference images / audio / video to 50
— Allows localized editing (specific characters, closing, detail), will come with copyright filter

Seedance 2 is already the #1 video model and does a whopping $2B in ARR, in a mere 4.5mos! At the current pricing of $2.5/15s, that implies >3.3M hours of video (!) have been generated. That’s 3x every feature film ever made and dozens of Netflixes. Only 3 US AI startups make more revenue.

We are 2x’ing realistic video gen length every 6mos.
— May 2025: Veo 3 does audio + video for the first time, 15s
— Jan 2026: Kling 3 does 15s
— Feb 2026: Seedance 2 does 15s, big quality bump

If every taxpayer can be tracked for every rupee he owes the government, why can’t the government show taxpayers where every rupee spent on roads has gone?

The Government has admitted at various points that nearly ₹5,500 crore has been spent on Bengaluru’s roads. Citizens have a right to know where this money has gone and what outcomes it has delivered.

My demand is simple.

Within the next 30 days, the Government must launch a publicly accessible live dashboard for all road infrastructure works in Bengaluru. Every citizen should be able to see:

• Which road is being worked on
• The cost of the project
• The contractor executing it
• The officer responsible
• The timeline for completion
• The maintenance period
• The defect liability period
• The real-time status of the work

This is not a difficult reform. Bengaluru is India’s technology capital. Hundreds of technology professionals would gladly volunteer their expertise to help build such a platform.

Transparency creates accountability. Accountability improves quality. Quality builds public trust.

₹5,500 crore later, Bengaluru deserves answers.

Build the dashboard. Put every road work online. Let citizens see where their money is going.

- Built a system run by a team that values ownership, judgment, and craft.
- Grew from 0 to 17M members by aligning incentives with behaviour.
- Built several products during COVID lockdowns.
- Raised $900M+ from global investors. Did 4 ESOP buybacks.
- Made Indiranagar and IPL ads slightly more interesting.
- Received a full stack of regulatory licences.
- Lost 35 kilos.
- Scaled from 0 to ~$325M ( ~₹3,200 crore) in annual revenue across payments, lending, insurance, commerce, wealth, and credit cards.
2026
- First profitable quarter (yet occasionally asked what our business model is)
- Raised another $900M from Meta in primary and secondary capital.

Today

CRED is ready for its next phase. I am stepping back and @miten steps in as interim CEO, partnered with an incredibly talented team. He has been heading strategy and finance and suffering me since 2020. I’m stepping away from the operating role and will continue as a shareholder. My commitment doesn’t change. Just the role.

Extremely grateful to our members, partners, regulators, and investors who made this possible. And to our board, Shailendra, Micky, Saurabh for their extraordinary conviction.

Team CRED, I’ll still expect you to be a 10x version of yourselves.

As for me, I’ll be joining Meta to lead WhatsApp globally.

While it’s come very far, the delta between WhatsApp today and its full potential is massive. I look forward to working with Mark, Chris, and the leadership across Meta for the next step in WhatsApp’s journey. The right to walk on a footpath has been declared a Fundamental Right by the Hon’ble Supreme Court - a much-needed step that state governments and Urban Local Bodies must act upon.

There is an urgent need to enact legislation on this. The Karnataka Active Mobility Bill, 2022, introduced by the BJP-led state government, and well received by all citizens should be tabled and implemented without delay.

Bengaluru’s footpaths aren't usable - inadequate, poorly maintained, encroached and unsafe.

I urge the CM @DKShivakumar led state government to table this Bill and request Bengaluru Development Minister Shri @krishnabgowda to prioritise and ensure walkability across Bengaluru.
