Summer research! Lots of cool projects in astronomy & astrophysics, gravitational wave detection, engineering/applied physics, sustainability, and plasma & nuclear physics. Students get hands on experience with equipment in our instrument shop and 1.7 MV particle accelerator lab.

Summer research in the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy is in full swing! We have 24 students working on research projects with faculty members.

Congratulations to Danae Polsin ('13, left in picture below), who was recognized by the SUNY Geneseo Alumni Association with the Outstanding Young Alum Award! Dr. Polsin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Rochester.

Good to see Rich Schugart, class of 1999, stop by the department today. He worked on knot theory with Dr. Iyer back in the day while he was an undergraduate. Currently Rich is a math professor at Western Kentucky University.

Lots of action at SUNY Geneseo's annual G.R.E.A.T Day held earlier this week. There were many posters and talks featuring undergraduate research done by Geneseo physics majors!

Steve Witkowski (Geneseo Physics B.A. in '68 and M.A. in '73) stopped by today and met with some physics majors. Steve says it's his first time back at Geneseo in 50 years! He has many fond memories of the department and of Dr. Duke Sells in particular. Welcome back Steve!
