Thanks to Mat Johnson and Keith Walters for putting together this new video about the physics and astronomy department at @SUNYGeneseo. Thanks also to Associate Professor Anne Pellerin for doing a great job with the narration! https://t.co/naW94rgzm4
Alumni - please register for our department's 60th anniversary celebration which will be held on September 10 at Vitale Park in Livonia. Event is family/pet friendly! Please register by 8/24. https://t.co/fN7gwFbOkV
Summer research! Lots of cool projects in astronomy & astrophysics, gravitational wave detection, engineering/applied physics, sustainability, and plasma & nuclear physics. Students get hands on experience with equipment in our instrument shop and 1.7 MV particle accelerator lab.
We are very happy to have a 2nd projector installed in ISC 229, the physics seminar room. Thank you to Bill Meyers of @CITGeneseo for his help in selecting a perfect solution for our instructional technology needs!
Congratulations to Danae Polsin ('13, left in picture below), who was recognized by the SUNY Geneseo Alumni Association with the Outstanding Young Alum Award! Dr. Polsin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Rochester.
Good to see Rich Schugart, class of 1999, stop by the department today. He worked on knot theory with Dr. Iyer back in the day while he was an undergraduate. Currently Rich is a math professor at Western Kentucky University.
Congratulations to our physics graduates, class of 2023! We are so proud of you all! Here is a photo of some of them sporting their caps and gowns up on the observatory on top of ISC.
Lots of action at SUNY Geneseo's annual G.R.E.A.T Day held earlier this week. There were many posters and talks featuring undergraduate research done by Geneseo physics majors!
Dr. Osburn recently was awarded an NSF grant entitled “Investigating gravitational waves and extreme mass ratio compact binaries”. This award will go to support high-impact research projects with Geneseo physics undergrads. Congrats Dr. Osburn! https://t.co/yGKWbTEGk7
Steve Witkowski (Geneseo Physics B.A. in '68 and M.A. in '73) stopped by today and met with some physics majors. Steve says it's his first time back at Geneseo in 50 years! He has many fond memories of the department and of Dr. Duke Sells in particular. Welcome back Steve!
Danae Polsin (Geneseo Physics graduate) and Geneseo faculty member Steve Padalino were featured in an article in the Geneseo Scene about the breakthrough in nuclear fusion. See link below! https://t.co/PlmvRRZPVR
Did you know @SUNYGeneseo has the only Pelletron particle accelerator in @promoteWNY? Faculty and students use the device to conduct several research projects in nuclear and plasma physics 🔬
The historic @SUNYGeneseo campus is home to a vibrant arts scene and innovative scientific research. It was a pleasure to join @SUNY Trustees @BobDuffyROC and @UFS_keith_landa for a tour of this beautiful campus and meaningful conversations with students, faculty, and staff.
Kurt Fletcher and five Geneseo physics students attended the 2023 American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) winter meeting in Portland as part of his PHYS 205 intersession course. We are excited to hear about all the cool things they learned at the conference!
Are you a student interested in SUNY Geneseo's top-ranked Physics and Astronomy Department? Visit us on campus for our Open House Day on November 11! You will have the opportunity to meet with physics faculty and students and take a campus tour! https://t.co/fX0FOWlTbx
