Last month we launched a pilot 1:!, intensive, 6 weeks short film & script workshop to support emerging black women storytellers with limited time, access & resources, develop authentic & professional scripts. We're so proud of Toyin Taiwo & her beautiful story THREE WOMEN!!
Dominique Fishback's performance in Swarm on Amazon Prime as a murderous music fan is mesmeric & complex. We've never seen a young black woman like this on the screen. Twisted, fiendish, riddled with unruly appetites. Congratulations to creators Janine Nabers & Donald Glover.
I'm so excited that Rye Lane exists. Rarely do we see two darker skinned black people paired together as love interests on the big screen in a UK romantic comedy. I love Linklater's Before trilogy. This has shades of that. I hope it continues to receive lots of love & support.
#Swarm Now imma be real, I never seen or heard of @Domfishback , UNTIL NOW, so imma give her all the praise & flowers she deserves for this complex/psychotic performance in this show. Dre is honestly a character you will feel terrified of and feel for at the same time.
👏👏👏👏

NANNY opens in U.S. theaters this week. For The Playlist, I spoke to writer-director Nikyatu Jusu about addressing the void of Black folklore in American cinema, collaborating with star Anna Diop, and seeing water as a symbol of destruction and rebirth.
