OTD in 1977, the Nazi National Front tried to march through Lewisham. Instead of letting the fascists have the streets or demonstrating on the other side of the borough, thousands of antifascists and the local black community confronted and stopped them.

The NF was ran out of Lewisham, and it turned the tide against the fascists who were gaining in confidence and votes.

The legacy of the Battle of Lewisham was the Anti Nazi League, a mass and broad campaign to fight the fascists in every area.

Stand Up to Racism stands in that tradition. We’re proud to have the founding members of the ANL on board. Like in Lewisham, this past week has shown what it possible when we have mass and militant demonstrations against the fascists wherever they try to mobilise.
