The @LemkinInstitute is deeply concerned about the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia, which has once again come under threat from Azerbaijan and its allies, this time ahead of the Armenian parliamentary election on June 7, 2026.

On May 10, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev implied that if Armenians were to elect a Prime Minister other than the incumbent Nikol Pashinyan, then Azerbaijan would invade Armenia, a threat he has made consistently since 2020. Prime Minister Pashinyan has been echoing this coercive electoral ultimatum as part of his campaign, portraying himself as the only alternative to war.

We affirm that Armenia’s sovereignty is non-negotiable and appeasement may not be the best approach to protecting it. Whatever happens with Armenia’s election on June 7, the international community must apply a genocide prevention mechanism to economic and diplomatic relations in the South Caucasus.

The Lemkin Institute urges the international community to finally take seriously the threats faced by Armenians in the South Caucasus. Azerbaijan committed genocide in 2023 and will not stop at that single instance of the crime. Similar to the outcome of the world’s passivity towards Israel, the impunity that has been granted to the current genocidal Azerbaijani regime by international actors, especially in the West but also including Russia and many states in the so-called Global South, is a major threat to peace and security in the South Caucasus region.

Exactly right. I’ve argued for 20 years against the “ethnic cleansing” euphemism. Forced removal is, as Raphael Lemkin recognised when he first analysed “genocide”, one of its prime methods. Forcing populations put of their homes and homelands is another way of destroying societies, i.e. genocide.

🔴 Lebanese Ministry of Health:

4 killed, 127 Wounded, and Severe and Extensive Damage at Jabal Amel Hospital

The Public Health Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Public Health issued a statement announcing that the raids launched by the Israeli enemy in the vicinity of Jabal Amel Hospital in Tyre yesterday, Monday, June 1, resulted in 4 people killed and 127 wounded. Among them are 39 members of the hospital’s medical, nursing, and administrative staff, distributed as follows:

4 doctors, 27 nurses, and 8 employees—four of whom are in critical condition and receiving treatment in intensive care.
The aggression also caused severe and extensive damage across the hospital's various floors, departments, and parking lot.

The Ministry of Public Health salutes the courage of the administration and workers who insisted on keeping the doors open and continuing the humanitarian and health service mission carried out by Jabal Amel Hospital under the burdens of unprecedented danger and violence.

The Ministry emphasizes that this attack, and the martyrs, wounded, and damage it caused, is nothing but a further embodiment of the law of the jungle that the Israeli enemy strictly applies, defying all laws, charters, and resolutions approved by the international community.
