A post showed up on my wife’s Facebook this morning from someone I’d all but forgotten existed. I only know them as Jeff Vader, and that was back when I was going by Mr. Stevens, Head of Catering, in the Wild West that was early-teens Facebook.

Jeff Vader, who incidentally ran the Death Star, and I crossed paths, and for a brief time we shared a love of the comedy of Eddie Izzard and an animosity between us because all the trays were wet.

I’ve got to admit that I waste a good portion of every evening playing video games.
Right now, it’s first-person shooters (FPSs), mainly Battlefield 6, but at other times I play ARPGs like Path of Exile 2, and right now I’m killing time waiting for the November release of GTA 6.
I’m working on an essay that looks at what these games provide for my ADHD addled brain. While you wait for that, here’s something I wrote a while back about the things I learned playing Battlefield 2024.

I found this God-forsaken pager in the bottom of a junk drawer last night, and knowing it was still in the house made it hard for me to sleep. The thought of its incessant beeping makes my blood pressure go through the roof.

You see, the thing was my near-constant companion for close to fifteen years when I worked for a restoration contractor. It would go off at the worst possible times. I saw this on a street corner the other day. Usually, these sign spinners are advertising for something, but strangely, the only thing this guy seemed to be trying to promote was the Ghostbuster services. I didn’t realize that was a thing, but I guess everyone needs to make a living somehow.
