What they used my eye to see because God forbid a boy starts growing beards and decides to keep it.
One pastor said “The way you are going, you will destroy your father’s ministry”
One national overseer told his children not to come to our house again.
Another pastor plainly insinuated that I was possessed by an evil spirit.
All because of beards. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE. And I cannot even fault them, because my father also taught against beards.
A lot more happened before I decided to leave the church.
But growing up in that space made me recognise the need to extend grace to people wherever their faith journey was taking them. By the way, two of these pastors now have grown up kids that keep beards.
The crux of Christianity is walking in love. And so far so good, the church can also be where people will experience the worst forms of toxicity and micro-aggression, and don’t get me started on the wickedness that goes on on Christian twitter.
When my kids were about to go to bed, I taught them this song we used to sing before prayers in pry school:
We’re praying ×2
Close your eyes ×2
Put your hands together ×2
Say your prayer ×2
I made sure they learnt it & I just realised I’m slowly acting like an actual parent 🥺
I don't like kids mahnn 😭
This child was gisting me about her summer, and I said, “Oh, I see.”
Guess what this brat said? “No, you can’t. You wear glasses.” 😭😭
With the way Nigeria is going please when are our parents supposed to eat the fruit of their labor. I still dey chop from their labor like this so when ??
