With deep sadness we announce the passing of colleague and mentor to many, Dr. Richard Zakrzewski, on December 24th. He has been a part of FHSU Geosciences since 1969. Though he retired from employment in 2012, he maintained his dedication to research and FHSU until his passing.
Congratulations to Dr. Henry Agbogun, assistant professor of geosciences/geology! He will be presented with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Foundation’s Inspirational Geoscience Educator Award in August!

The sky here is overcast today, raising our hopes for rain. With rain often comes lightning! Today's Severe Weather Awareness week topic is Lightning. Did you know: 2015-2019 the Total Lightning Density (CG + Cloud Pulses) per sq mi avg per year in KS ranged from 64-288?
Take a guess at what you think your state/county Lightning Density is. Then check out the map linked in the comments. Let us know if you are surprised by the data, or your guess was a flash of knowledge and you were within range!
