Geothermal Energy Potential in Cambrian rocks focusing on public buildings; assessment of both energy demand and geothermal potential – Belspo BRAIN-be 2.0 fund
In this latest episode of Smart Regions, Euronews made a nice reportage on BRUGEO (EU-funded project) in which the @GSBelgium managed the subsoil exploration for geothermal energy potential beneath the Belgian capital. https://t.co/SvVkIdvXp8
The #GEOCAMB borehole in Molenbeek reached 151.5m depth. 50m of cores were extracted from the Paleozoic Basement. Few interviews were given to De Standaard, #vrt , #soirinfo , BX1, #RTBF , Sudinfo, La Libre, l'Avenir and La DH. Check online !
First daylight ever for this +510my old rock! Ongoing core drilling in Molenbeek, Brussels, in the framework of the shallow geothermal feasibility study @Geo_Camb project. With much media interest @GSBelgium@belspo@Seismologie_be@ORB_KSB
Today our colleagues of @GSBelgium reached the Cambrian bedrock during a new drilling campaign. With H/V spectral ratio analysis we predicted the depth between 97 and 103m. Spot on!! Our resonance frequency-to-depth powerlaw works! @seismo_tick @Seismologie_be
After 90 meters of tertiary and 8 m of Cretaceous layers, we touched the Cambrian basement at 101,5m today! Now the first part of the drilling will be cased to allow the core drilling on Friday! Thanks to @belspo research funding!
We reached a depth of 81m at #Molenbeek-Gandhi drill site this evening (mainly clay and sand from tertiary layers). Looking forward the Cambrian bedrock!
The Geocamb exploration drilling started this morning ! We are going to evaluate the geothermal potential for social public buildings of Molenbeek (Ghandi towers ) #molenbeek#geothermal
Présentation des cartes de Potentiel des sondes géothermiques verticales en Wallonie par notre collègue Camille Baudinet du @GSBelgium lors de la journée de la géothermie en Wallonie
Thanks to @seismologie_be@ORB_KSB to have hosted our hybrid follow-up committee meeting of the GeoCamb BRAIN-be 2.0 @belspo research project Fruitful discussions on the workpackage progresses with partners and committee members.
Today, we are celebrating the 125th anniversary of the GSB! The GeoCamb project is presented at the GeoEnergy Booth. Welcome and enjoy the day !

We are proud to announce our newest book “Small and great stories of the Geological Survey of Belgium” (Dutch-French, no English), which will be presented at the GSB125 event on June 9, 2022 at the @RBINSmuseum #GSBelgium125

The GeoCamb project was present during the study day @BruxellesEnv dedicated to heat networks in the Brussels Region. More than 200 people reunited to share and discuss about their experience. Thank you to all the organisers and participants !
@GSBelgium@MuseGeoera Cool! In the @Geo_Camb project we investigate the geothermal suitability of the Cambrian bedrock a.o. below the Delta hospital. We use indestructive seismic techniques to identify the depth of the bedrock as shown below by a virtual borehole. No drilling involved 👨🚒
Geothermal projects keep running in Brussels ! This week : drilling @Tourettaxis, measuring @EuropeanParl, analyzing @RBINSmuseum @GSBelgium … in order to expand our knowledge of the Paleozoic basement ! #Geothermal
