Just back from a 1,000-mile round trip from Somerset to Spa for the Summer Classic race meet. The old 944 sat at speed for hour after hour and didn’t miss a beat.
@drewgibsonshots Fantastic! I gave two Danish backpackers a lift in a Rapide once, whilst on a launch event in Scotland. I can still see the surprise on their faces as we squeezed their enormous bags into the boot. Remember that @StreetKev ?
@hjwakerley Lovely. Ran the exact same daily for 6/7 years – 318iES? A fine steering car. Multiple dead coil packs and a stretched cam chain finally signalled its demise at 135k.
Here’s what appears to be a rather special 996 Carrera 2. Anyone know more about these early 3.4 X51 engines?
I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

So much to get your head around with the Ioniq 5 N, but it's worth putting in the effort - I've never had more fun in an EV. Review here👇🏼

One of two offered in the Monterey 2023 auction, the 924/933 kit cars were designed by the factory to race in SCCA D Production Championship starting in 1979. See the listing here.

Talking of cheap Porsches, this’ll take some beating! This link suggests that a rare (1 of 16) factory-designed and famously rebuilt 924/933 ‘kit car’ production racer sold @mecum earlier in the year for a shockingly low $20k… 1/2

Following a recent visit to @MagalleriaBath I bagged my first ever copy of Tazio, a rather fine motorsport-inspired quarterly that I will definitely buy again.
VERY excited to announce the follow-up to STEALING SPEED. It's a similar story of racers, motorcycles, history, engineering & politics all colliding together in one mad mess! A Brit on a supercharged Brough, versus a supercharged BMW backed by the Nazi Motor Corps & a supercharged Gilera backed by Mussolini, all battling for the land-speed record as the Second World War loomed down upon them.
The book will be available for pre-order soon and will be published early November, so there'll be plenty of time to get the book to all of you for Christmas.
RACING HITLER includes 16 glossy pages of amazing photos from the time: BMW streamliners on the autobahns and Gilera streamliners on the autostrada, doing 170mph & practicing for their record bids on open roads!
The Nazis and Mussolini used these records to promote their fascist ideologies, while plucky Brit Eric Crudgington Fernihough was simply obsessed with beating them.
Important note: my yellow SPEED book included this story but it's such an amazing tale (IMO better than STEALING SPEED, especially for readers of English because it features an amazing British hero) that it deserves to be told to more people.
I will let you know when the book is available for pre-order.
Cheers, Mat
