The Loch Maree Group is amazing - Wester Ross is dominated by Lewisian & Torridonian but there are swathes of amphibolite & schist, with hidden treasures inc gold-bearing sulphides, slithers of mylonite & even Banded Iron Formations. RG Park published an incredible paper on it 🌟

🌍 These wee wiggles tell a huge geological story 🌍

They're in an amphibolite, crushed between continents 2 billion yrs ago as part of the Loch Maree Group. You might have heard about this rocks' well known neighbour, Lewisian Gneiss, but this one is special & found only here!

Here is a little gem of a paper by @adrian_hartley @Jess_Pugsley @Gee_o_Joe and yours truly. We found some dropstones in the Diabaig Formation (Torridonian ~ 1000 Myr)! The first time ice has been described during the ‘boring billion’ in the Precambrian!
