In a fascinating study of borehole sampling provided by Connect Archaeology on behalf of National Highways, AOC’s Jess Taylor, primary author of The River That Swallowed the Ringwood Prehistoric Landscape: Geoarchaeological investigations in advance of the development of the A31, Hampshire, England, has drilled deep into the past of the Avon Valley.
In this hot-off-the-presses publication, Jess’s geoarchaeological work reveals lush Neolithic wetlands filled with alder and hazel, dramatic shifts in climate driving away Iron Age settlers, and the full force of 20th century technologies and their impacts on the landscape.
