New Geocenter project in #GEUS, Department of Hydrology!
The project, Water4Nature, investigates the role of groundwater and hydrology in nature restoration, biodiversity and greenhouse gas emissions in an undisturbed forest in Denmark. See more here: https://t.co/ekE4tX1623
💧We've crossed yet another #PlanetaryBoundary, now 06/10: Freshwater. Plants are suffering from water scarcity caused by human interference into the global water cycle. Whole ecosystems like the #Amazon are starting to partly dry off as a result. https://t.co/AZdPmGvYHH
Check our recent paper at ES&T, led by Hyojin Kim, where we proposed a new way of #upscaling point-scale #denitrification rate measurements to the catchment level using multi-disciplinary knowledge. https://t.co/RJpX8YQtxr @EnvSciTech@GRUK_GEUS@GEUS_Geochemist @FlemmingGEUS
Exciting! As part of the series @cas_see_uniri seminars with guests, @dznta_h, Linda & @fanny_frick are giving an interactive talk about challenges and methodological opportunities that emerge from conducting interdisciplinary groundwater research.

#30DayMapChallenge Day 18: Water
Distance from streams and lakes in DK. I tried a new QGIS plug-in (multi-distance buffer) & the cividis color palette. Almost everywhere there is a stream less than 2km away, lakes - not so many/often.
Our paper about NBLs of trace elements in groundwater got the badge “Editor’s Choice article” (Water), meaning that it could be “particularly interesting or important in this field”. Link 👇🏻

Day 7: Green #30DayMapChallenge
There is only ~14% #forest cover in Denmark and a bit less than half of the GRUMO wells are within 1 km from a forest. Cluster 25 is on the island Samsø, which I chose today to zoom into.
The 48th IAH Congres just launched in Brussels by the chair of the Organizing commitee- With smurfs teaching kids / everybody about the UN SDGs and the importance of #groundwater
Depth of the shallow groundwater at 10m spatial resolution for entire Denmark. Modeled with help of machine learning @CatBoostML and physically based modelling. Take a look at our latest paper here:
