Credit cards typically have a statement period. If you charged say 3k on a large purchase on the last day of the period, the balance will get reported even if you paid it off 2 days later and increase utilzn

Once a statement is cut, there is a grace period of around 15+ days. Pay off the entire statement balance before this date and you build credit with no interest charges. You can continue making purchases too.
