Why don’t Ukrainians just stop fighting and give Russia what it wants?
To understand the answer, look at Germany after World War II.
Germany was divided. West Germany embraced democracy, freedom, and a market economy. East Germany fell under Soviet control and communist rule.
Same people. Same culture. Same history. But two very different futures.
West Germany prospered. East Germany struggled under Soviet rule. And when the Berlin Wall was built, it wasn’t to keep people out. It was to keep people from escaping.
Ukrainians know this history. They understand what it means to live under Moscow’s thumb.
My wife is Ukrainian. My mother-in-law still lives in Ukraine. For me, this isn’t just another war on the evening news. It’s personal.
Ukrainians aren’t simply fighting for a piece of land. They’re fighting for the right to determine their own destiny. They’re fighting for their children, their grandchildren, and future generations that they will never live to see.
They’re fighting for the freedom to choose their leaders, speak their language, express their opinions without fear, and build a future without asking Putin’s permission.
They don’t want their children growing up in another East Germany.
Imagine being told that America should surrender its independence because defending it is too costly. Imagine being told that freedom simply isn’t worth the sacrifice. We would never stand for that. We would fight to the last man.
Of course Ukraine wants peace. Who wouldn’t? But there’s a profound difference between peace and submission.
Ukraine isn’t fighting because its people love war. They’re fighting because they love their country, their families, and the freedom they want to leave to future generations.
And that is something every American who values our own independence should understand.

Flew on Epstein’s plane at least seven times. Just friends, I guess.
Pleaded the Fifth more than 400 times in a single deposition. Nothing says “innocent” like refusing to answer a single question about your own business.
34 felony convictions. A record most people would call disqualifying. And 91 criminal charges.
Accused of sexual misconduct or assault by at least 26 women. But sure, tell me again how he’s a great guy.
6 corporate bankruptcies. The self proclaimed greatest businessman alive somehow keeps running out of money.
5 draft deferments. Funny how the toughest guy in the room never actually showed up for duty. He said, "no thanks", when asked to serve his country. Speaking about McCain, Trump stated: "He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured."
4 criminal indictments. Not two. Not three. Four.
2 impeachments. A club of exactly one president.
2 of his own companies convicted of criminal tax fraud. Convicted. Not accused. Convicted.
During the 2016 presidential election, Trump’s campaign orchestrated a televised Iowa fundraiser meant for veterans but directed the foundation’s money to boost his political campaign. The charity was used to buy personal items, including a $10,000 portrait of Trump. The New York State Attorney General filed a lawsuit in 2018, regarding Donald J. Trump Foundation, alleging a "pattern of persistent illegality" and self-dealing. The investigation found that Trump used the charity as a personal "piggy bank."
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The Eric Trump Foundation Controversy: This investigation revealed that the charity raised money under the guise of FUNDING THE ST. JUDE CHILDREN'S RESEARCH HOSPITAL, but was allegedly charged over $1.2 million by the Trump Organization for using Trump-owned golf courses, shifting donor money meant for sick children back into Trump businesses.
1 fake university shut down. Trump's charities always involved cheating and grifting. HE AND HIS FAMILY ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO RUN A CHARITY IN NEW YORK He and his family are no longer allowed to run a charity in New York because the Trump Organization used the funds for Trump-owned golf courses, SHIFTING DONOR MONEY MEANT FOR SICK CHILDREN INTO TRUMP BUSINESSES. He was ordered to pay 2 million dollars for looting his own so called charity.
Paid 25 million dollars to settle the Trump University fraud lawsuit because scamming people who believed in you costs money eventually.
Ordered to pay 5 million dollars in the first E Jean Carroll sexual abuse verdict, then hit with 83.3 million more in the second. A jury said it twice so nobody could pretend it was a fluke.
First president in modern history to increase the deficit every single year of a full term. Fiscal responsibility, apparently, was always just a talking point.
Kept the debt to GDP ratio above 100 percent for his entire first term.
Presided over the largest single day point drop in Dow Jones history at the time. So much for the guy who claimed to be a genius with money.
Set the record for the longest government shutdown in US history in his first term at 35 days, then couldn’t resist beating his own miserable record in his second term with a 43 day shutdown, followed by yet another shutdown just months later. THE ONLY POTUS TO HAVE 3 GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWNS IN HIS TERMS.
Added roughly 2.25 trillion dollars to the national debt in his first year back in office alone, pushing the debt past 39 trillion dollars.
Somebody remind me who the party of fiscal discipline is again.
Pushed through the largest defense budget increase since World War Two while the debt kept climbing anyway.
Purged more than 300,000 federal employees in his first year back.
Pardoned nearly 1,600 January 6 Capitol rioters on his very first day back in office, including Oath Keepers and Proud Boys leaders convicted of seditious conspiracy.
Law and order, except when it’s inconvenient. At least 40 of those pardoned rioters have already been rearrested, charged, or sentenced for new crimes since walking free. Shocking absolutely nobody.
His family’s crypto ventures, including a meme coin and World Liberty Financial, pulled in more than 1.4 billion dollars in disclosed earnings while he sat in the Oval Office.
Draining the swamp was apparently code for filling his own pockets.
Sent the National Guard into American cities at a cost of nearly 500 million taxpayer dollars in 2025 alone, then BRAGS about lower crime. He has no long term solution - ever. He just sends in the military. The military seems to be his answer to everything.
His own tariffs are projected to cost the average American household more than 2,500 dollars this year.
YOU'RE PAYING FOR THIS. NOT CHINA. YOU!
Got America involved in a forever war with Iran, though promised the exact opposite.
Peace deal with Russia and Ukraine on Day One. He has continued to side with Putin and has never admitted that Russia invaded Ukraine - UNPROVOKED.
Now sitting at one of the lowest approval ratings of his second term, stuck in the mid 30s while inflation and gas prices make everyday life harder.
None of this is a conspiracy theory, a rumor, or something you saw in a group chat.
It is the actual, documented record, sitting in plain sight for anyone willing to look.
So the next time someone tells you to relax and give him a chance, ask them how many more indictments, judgments, and shutdown records he needs to rack up before that chance runs out.

Zelenskyy: “Trump Is Demanding That I Surrender to Putin”
Finally, the moment has come when we can stop pretending to be diplomatically polite, carefully choosing our words, and acting as though we are dealing with some sophisticated peace negotiations rather than the blatant coercion of a victim into surrender.
For the first time, Zelenskyy has said out loud what many have long suspected: according to him, the Trump administration is taking steps that are forcing Ukraine to surrender to Russia.
“I don't want to think that our American partners believe it is possible to end the war faster at Ukraine's expense. But that is exactly what it looks like.”
Trump is demanding capitulation!
Pay attention to that last sentence. No hysteria, no diplomatic scandal, not even an accusation. Just a statement of fact from a man who has spent far too long trying to convince himself that his ally really is an ally.
And indeed, a rather interesting picture is emerging.
Russia bombs Ukrainian cities, while Washington demands that Kyiv stop striking Russian oil refineries. Ukraine purchases American missiles for its Patriot air defense systems, but according to Zelenskyy, deliveries are being delayed. Restrictions on satellite communications are emerging, making it significantly more difficult for Ukrainian troops to conduct military operations.
And all of this is accompanied by endless talk about peace.
What kind of peace, gentlemen?
Imagine a robber breaking into your home, murdering your loved ones, setting your bedroom on fire, and then a police officer arriving at the scene. But instead of arresting the criminal, the officer demands that you immediately put down your gun because the shooting is disturbing the neighbors' sleep.
And, as a friendly gesture, he promises to help the robber get more gasoline.
That, in my opinion, is exactly what American diplomacy looks like today.
Trump loves to repeat that he wants to stop the bloodshed. A wonderful desire. Yet somehow, almost all his demands are directed at the country defending itself, while the man who unleashed the largest European war of our time is offered negotiations, economic concessions, and yet another opportunity to bargain.
There is one inconvenient detail for Trump here.
Zelenskyy cannot sign Ukraine's capitulation for the simple reason that Ukraine does not belong to him.
It is not a hotel that can be sold together with its guests, nor a golf course that can be handed over to creditors to settle debts.
Behind this country stand millions of people who have buried their loved ones, lost their homes, endured occupation, torture, and Russian prisons.
Trump can put as much pressure on Zelenskyy as he wants. But forcing Ukrainians to voluntarily recognize Russia's right to determine their fate is an entirely different matter.
The most disgusting part of this story is not even the pressure on Ukraine itself, but the attempt to present capitulation as a great humanitarian achievement for which humanity should thank the American president.
Putin demands Ukrainian land.
Trump demands peace.
And Ukrainians are expected to pay the price for both demands.
You know, history has seen deals like this before. They were usually signed by people who were absolutely convinced that someone else would have to pay the price.
And every single time, there was some solemn gentleman announcing that he had finally brought peace to Europe.
The only difference is that this time, Ukraine is still holding its weapons.
And it has no intention of laying them down.

BREAKING: “I DON’T GIVE A DAMN”! Trump BRAGS that America is making a "freaking fortune" from soaring oil prices while Americans suffer at the gas pump – and admits his own advisers warned him to keep his mouth shut about it!
Donald Trump just delivered an astonishing speech in which he openly acknowledged that Americans are hurting from high gas prices, boasted that American oil companies are making hundreds of billions of dollars, and then declared that he didn't care one iota about how it looked.
"We're making a freaking fortune!" Trump crowed at a rally in Georgia, after describing the enormous profits he claims American oil and gas companies are raking in because of the war in the Middle East.
The funny part is that Trump knew EXACTLY how his remarks would sound to struggling Americans.
"My people said, please don't mention that, sir, because people are paying a little higher," Trump told the crowd. But when it comes to the idea of anyone making money, Trump can't resist ...
"Our country is making hundreds of billions of dollars because of what's happened in the Middle East," he declared, naming Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana as places benefiting from the oil business.
He even claimed the windfall extended to Venezuela and Greenland, boasting that America was making "hundreds and hundreds of billions, trillions of dollars."
But who is this “America” person of whom he speaks -- the benfeciary of these trillions? America Ferrara, the actress? Captain America? Amerigo Vespucci?
Trump imagined the headlines his remarks would generate, practically writing the criticism himself in a rare flash of self-awareness.
"President Trump is talking about all the money they're making while people are suffering at the pump," he said. "That'll be the headline."
But Trump never lets us down by not telling us how he really feels.
"But I said, I don't give a damn. I'm going to say it. We're making a freaking fortune."
Of course, there's a little distinction Trump seems determined to ignore: When oil companies make billions of dollars, that money doesn't magically appear in anyone’s bank account, unless you are an oil executive. The people suffering at the pump AREN’T sharing in any profits.
Trump again promised that oil prices would fall dramatically once the war ends, but offered no evidence of how or when that might happen.
Trump talks about the oil executives making billions as though their profits were his own personal triumph. He celebrates their windfall with unmistakable enthusiasm and even envy, even as he acknowledges that ordinary Americans are paying the bill for billions in profits.
He knows exactly how that sounds. He recited the criticism himself, practically word for word, before announcing that he didn't give a damn. And went right back to bragging about the money.
This is not the kind of president America wants or needs.
Vote Blue on November 3.

The timing of Trump's full betrayal is honestly baffling. He knows the midterms are going to be very difficult for his party and that most Americans support Ukraine. The logical thing to do to boost his standing would be to increase his support for Ukraine.
Instead, he does the exact opposite. He restricts Starshield/Starlink, crippling Ukraine’s ability to defend itself, strikes a diesel deal with Russia, grants Russia a sanctions waiver, and his rhetoric on Ukraine turns unhinged.
Why? It’s almost as if someone in the Kremlin called and told him to use his power to the fullest to help Russia while he still can. I know this sounds, but what else could it be?
The new White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia, claims the abortion pill contains the same chemicals used in Nazi extermination camps. Fact: Mifepristone was developed in 1980 in France. It doesn’t share a single chemical component with any of the Nazis’ chemicals or gases.
We’re a global disgrace.
A message to all sane Republicans: He pardoned 1,600 violent criminals. You said nothing. He bulldozed the East Wing. You said nothing. He interfered with the release of the Epstein files. You said nothing. He took over the Kennedy Center and renamed it after himself. You said nothing. He accepted a $400 million airplane as a personal gift. You said nothing. He threatened Canada, Cuba, Denmark, Greenland, Venezuela, Colombia, and Brazil. You said nothing. He tariffed just about everyone but Russia, causing inflation and instability worldwide. You said nothing. He attacked a nation during mediated negotiations. You said nothing. His ill-conceived war killed 175 children on day one. You said nothing. He alienated and insulted our allies. You said nothing. His ICE Army terrorized and murdered U.S. citizens. You said nothing. He committed murder on the high seas. You said nothing. He co-opted the Justice Department and directed it to prosecute his political enemies. You said nothing. It's time to start talking!!!

Let’s say you wanted to construct the most dangerous possible man. How would you do it?
You would start with someone naturally stupid, but not so stupid they can’t perform.
You’d place them in a privileged family with sociopathic parents who provided no emotional attachment.
You’d have them be the second son of a father who rejected his first-born as weak—to the point he committed suicide.
You’d raise him to be cruel. You’d introduce him to sadists like Roy Cohn. You’d model belittling women, minorities, and anyone less privileged. You break him down until everyday sadism becomes his lifestyle.
By adulthood, you’d have a fully formed malignant narcissist, a psychopath so consumed with his own superiority that he believes everyone is out to get what he has—a paranoid, Machiavellian sadist with no empathy and no morals.
You’d give him access to criminals like Jeffrey Epstein who cultivated his sexual sadism and collected compromising information.
You’d send him to Moscow to get brainwashed by Soviet intelligence.
You continuously feed his narcissism by ensuring he’s rescued from every situation—as if by magic.
You’d make him feel legally and financially invulnerable by letting him get away with crime after crime, fraud after fraud, and six bankruptcies.
You’d rescue him from the sewer of his life by giving him a prime time TV show based on his narcissistic self-image—a show which celebrated his cruelty as business acumen.
You’d let him get away with colluding with a foreign power to steal a presidential election. You’d let him get away with a violent insurrection to try to hold on to power when he lost.
And you’d stand by for four years while he plotted to come back and take his revenge.
However, you haven’t quite completed the path to the worst possible man, although you have achieved a rare feat. You have successfully created a messianic narcissist with the nuclear codes. Great start!
But you must take things one step further: you must give him frontal lobe dementia and drain from his brain any remaining ability to reason, make judgements, or take advice. This will destroy his ability to understand the consequences of his actions. His salience network will be disintegrated, making it impossible to tell what matters—even to himself.
You’d surround him with people incentivized to conceal his incapacity to function. You’d fill the federal government and the Pentagon with deviant psychopaths who are perfectly happy to exploit his disorders for profit, ideology, and enjoyment.
And then you would create a global emergency of his own making. You’d have him repeatedly fail at everything he tries and have his popularity plummet to historic levels. You’d have him be mocked by the entire world.
Finally, as a last straw, you threaten him with losing an election by a monstrous landslide.
That’s how you get the most dangerous man in the world.
Under the Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act of 2022, Russian diesel cannot be imported into the United States unless the president certifies to Congress that Russia has withdrawn from Ukraine, acknowledged Ukraine's sovereignty, and no longer poses a threat to NATO.
Claude Malhuret Was Right about Trump.
On Friday, at Trump's direction, the US Treasury issued a license waving Russian diesel back onto the world market, days after Russia killed dozens of Ukrainians, many of them children. It seems a good moment to revisit the speech in which a French senator told us exactly who these people were.
Claude Malhuret took the floor of the Luxembourg Palace and delivered what may be the most surgical dismantling of the Trump administration ever spoken in a legislative chamber. There were no diplomatic niceties, only a point-by-point indictment from an ally who had clearly had enough.
"A year ago, here in France, I compared Trump's presidency to Nero's Court. I was wrong. It's the Court of Miracles. An anti-vaxxer, former heroin addict as Minister of Health," he began, meaning RFK Jr.
Then came the rest of the cabinet: "A climate-skeptic Minister of Economy. An alcoholic TV host, Minister of the Armed Forces. An old Qatar agent, Minister of Justice. A groupie of Putin, Minister of National Security." That would be Scott Bessent, Pete Hegseth, Pam Bondi and Tulsi Gabbard.
"A Turkish proverb says: when a clown settles in a palace, he does not become king, it is the palace that becomes a circus."
The circus has been busy. Trump came off a phone call with Putin and announced on Truth Social that Russia would send millions of tons of diesel to the world market, promising in capital letters that prices "will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST!"
Bessent's Treasury promptly made it legal, barely a month after Trump signed a sweeping Russia sanctions law, as NPR points out.
The motive is not hard to find. Diesel prices in America have doubled since the war with Iran began in February and the midterms are weeks away, so the man who set the fuel market on fire is now buying the extinguisher from Vladimir Putin and sending the bill to Ukraine.
According to Axios, Kyiv was blindsided while Witkoff and Kushner were sitting with Ukrainian officials to discuss ending the war, and an analyst told the outlet the volumes are too small to fix the shortage anyway.
So Putin gets revenue and respectability, Americans may or may not get cheaper diesel, and Ukrainians get more missiles. Zelensky called it weakness from partners who are supposed to be strong, which is the polite version. Malhuret gave us the impolite one long ago, and he has been proved right down to the last clown.

My view: The ECHR isn’t some bureaucratic inconvenience. Human-rights protections were deliberately placed at the heart of the Good Friday Agreement because equal rights, enforceable in law, helped build confidence between communities after decades of conflict.
And there’s a wider principle here.
If a government says the ECHR prevents it from doing something, perhaps the first question shouldn’t be: how do we get around human rights?
It should be: why does what we want to do fail to meet these basic standards of fairness, liberty and equal treatment.
And is it really something a democratic government should be doing at all?
