The Mer de Glace ('Sea of Ice') is a valley glacier located on the northern slopes of the Mont Blanc massif in the French Alps. It is France's largest glacier. Due to global warming it has lost around 800 metres in length in the past three decades.
Welcome to #February2025 with a fantastic image from the Geologists' Association 2025 calendar of the last vestiges of the Mer de Glace glacier, France taken by Roy Starkey, which was Highly Commended in the GA 2024 Photographic Competition.
