Cofnas' use of the term 'race' doesn't divert significantly from the idea of populations used here, which is really just a sanitized term for the same idea. He sticks to using the term 'race' to avoid Pinker's 'euphemism treadmill' more than anything else.

And that fact encapsulates all Cofnas means by 'race'.
