@DAaronovitch@DaveyPicture I do admire your chutzpah here. Most people would have the courage of their convictions and go "Name one single thing you think I got wrong! Just one!!!"
Not you. You hedge your bets...
"Name 1000 things I got wrong then! I bet you couldn't even name 100"
Brilliant.
@DAaronovitch@DaveyPicture Iraq, Lybia, Syria, Greenwald, ICE, Lineham.
""If I were Biden, I'd hurry up and have Trump murdered on the basis that he is a threat to America's security #SCOTUS"
The meaning of 'satire'.
@DAaronovitch@Terfin9000@Glinner Whether by accident or not Good (sic) drove her car at the ICE agent. he saw that as a lethal threat against himself and his colleagues.
As an analogy, imagine bombing a country back to the stone-age because of a mistaken perception it had WMD and was a threat to your own.
@TheCinesthetic Ridley took the coolest, most mysterious alien concept in cinema history and turned it into a tall bald albino in a suit.
For this he will never be forgiven.
@thereisnobeth You're not really accepted by society until your group is represented in a villainous way by artists.
There are plenty of positive depictions. Orlando, Priscilla, Ma Vie en Rose, La Cage aux Folles.
Its foolish not to embrace and enjoy one of the great villains of cult cinema.
@EveKeneinan@WretchedDog1725 I beleive it is written in the fabric of the universe that rape is wrong.
There can not be a universe in which it isn't wrong.
Its just how things are. To ask for more explanation is to ask why 2 + 2 = 4. One can not reason at all unless some fundamentals are given.
@EveKeneinan@WretchedDog1725 Why is rape wrong?
Because God says it is?
This ignores the suffering, the indifference to a person's independence and dignity. none of that matters or is relevant to why rape is immoral. God says it is, and if he said it wasnt, regardless of the suffering, it wouldnt be.
@GuyLambertUK@Glinner You're grifting.
You have no way of measuring the contribution Linehan has made or the minds he's changed or the opinions he has influenced.
You're the irrelevant, unpleasant angry man ranting on X presenting opinions he simply can not know for sure as unquestionable facts.
π
@RamseySAN95@DrPJWilliams@LeoKearse absolutely. Cofnas' use of the term 'race' doesn't divert significantly from the idea of populations used here, which is really just a sanitized term for the same idea. He sticks to using the term 'race' to avoid Pinker's 'euphemism treadmill' more than anything else.
@DrPJWilliams@LeoKearse The idea that a philosophical view is racist because it is not 'obvious to a 5 year old' is not an argument worthy of someone with a doctorate.
@DrPJWilliams@colwight@LeoKearse You 'presume'?
The man is getting death threats.
You're not pandering to the accusation he is racist because of a presumption?
You have engaged with his views yourself, right?
You understand the difference between a view being empirically unsupported and a view being racist?
@cricri42@PierreBitwise@MathysGill18843@EricMuraille (I thought racial divisions could not exist according to you - race being a ridiculous concept)
Either way, hopefully racial divisions have already been transcended.
The high number of inter-racial relationships I see pottering around is very encouraging.
π
@cricri42@PierreBitwise@MathysGill18843@EricMuraille Sure. And just by looking I can also say, with very high confidence, that at least one branch of your family tree arrived in Europe at most a few generations rather than thousands of generations ago.
And that fact encapsulates all Cofnas means by 'race'.
@JimFromCleburne@thedarkhorsepod Yeah, they didn't have winters in Africa. Didn't have to plan for that.
But, they had droughts see. And had to plan and adapt to those.
That probably took some thinking.
