West Texas is central to Texas’ past, present and future. It powers our economy, feeds our state and country, trains and employs generations of Texans, and remains a defining source of the independence that sets Texas apart.
I recently traveled to San Angelo and the Concho Valley to listen, learn, and have an honest conversation about the opportunities and responsibilities that come with new investment in the region.
West Texas has a tremendous opportunity ahead. New technologies and infrastructure investments, including potential data center development, could bring construction jobs, technical jobs, expanded tax bases, and new revenue for essential local services.
But those benefits will not happen automatically. They depend on decisions made early, before permits are issued, infrastructure is built and local taxpayers are asked to absorb new demands. Communities need clear information about proposed projects, realistic assessments of their effects and a seat at the table when agreements are negotiated.
As the Legislature prepares to return to Austin, Texas will have an important opportunity to find the right balance: maintaining a reliable electric grid and protecting our water resources while preserving the competitive environment that has made Texas a destination for investment.
We don't have to choose the false narrative of unregulated growth on one hand or anti-development public policy on the other—we can strike a balance that puts Texans and community interests first. I wrote about my recent visit to San Angelo and what I believe the future of West Texas growth should look like in the San Angelo Standard-Times.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember.
On September 11, 2001, America experienced one of the darkest and most horrific days in our history. Nearly 3,000 innocent people were taken from their families, and our nation was forever changed.
Yet, in the midst of unimaginable tragedy, we saw the very best of America and the very best of humanity.
First responders ran toward danger. Strangers helped strangers. Communities came together. Americans opened their hearts to those who were hurting. And countless men and women answered the call to serve their country and their fellow citizens.
We also saw the strength of the friendships America had built around the world. Our allies rallied to our side. For the first and only time in NATO's history, Article 5 was invoked: an attack on one Ally was treated as an attack on all. Nations stood with America, and many went on to serve and sacrifice alongside our troops in the fight against global terror.
That spirit of courage, compassion, sacrifice, service, and solidarity is part of the legacy we carry forward.
Twenty-five years later, we remember those we lost. We honor those who served. And we remind the generations who came after, of what America looked like when we stood together.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
Today we celebrate the American workers who build, create, serve, and keep our communities moving forward.
From the jobsite to the small business, the classroom to the factory floor, America’s strength is powered by people who take pride in an honest day’s work.
Happy Labor Day!
America’s national debt has passed $40 trillion.
This isn’t just a milestone. It’s a fiscal crisis. Rising debt & interest costs are putting an ever-greater burden on taxpayers and the next generation.

America can't win the AI race with 50 different rulebooks.
A patchwork of state AI laws raises costs, slows innovation, and weakens our competitiveness against China.
We need a national framework that protects minors, privacy, and intellectual property while strengthening "sovereign AI" and keeping America at the forefront of innovation.

This Independence Day carries special meaning as we celebrate our nation's 250th birthday.
For two and a half centuries, generations of Americans have defended the ideals of liberty, opportunity, and self-government that make this country exceptional.
Today we honor those who built, defended, and continue to strengthen this nation we are blessed to call home.
Happy 4th of July, and God Bless America.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandfathers, and father figures who lead with love, sacrifice, patience, and strength.
The lessons fathers pass down shape families, our nation, and future generations in ways that matter far beyond today.
Wishing everyone a meaningful and blessed Father’s Day.
Very saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Joshua Baer.
Joshua helped shape Austin into one of the nation’s leading technology and startup hubs, mentoring countless founders and helping bring Army Futures Command to Austin as the city emerged as a major center for innovation and national defense technology.
Our prayers are with his family, friends, and the entire @CapitalFactory community during this difficult time.

The real question with data centers isn’t whether they’re coming, but whether we build them the right way, with smart planning that protects local communities in Texas and keep resources affordable.
So when Google announces a new $10M Texas Water Impact Fund (as they did today), on top of more than $500M already committed to water, wastewater, and reuse infrastructure in communities where its data centers operate, that would be a best practices example of how to develop data centers the right way, by investing in local water systems.

Today we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy today and reminds us that liberty is never free.
On this Memorial Day, let us remember, reflect, and give thanks.
God bless our fallen heroes and the families who carry their legacy forward. 🇺🇸
Americans work too hard & pay too much in taxes to tolerate hundreds of billions in waste, fraud, and abuse.
HHS believes there is up to $100–$200 billion annually in wasteful or fraudulent spending, and now it’s using AI to help identify it.

This hasn’t happened since World War II:
U.S. debt is now larger than the entire economy.
We are nearly out of time to address this responsibly.
Waiting any longer guarantees only impossible choices ahead.

The Treasury will borrow nearly $2 trillion this year just to keep the gov’t running.
That’s > $166 billion every month.
At some point, trillion-dollar borrowing stops being “normal” and becomes a serious threat to our stability.
That point is now.
