OTD in 1903, Priaulx Rainier was born. The South African-British composer crafted a unique musical voice shaped by her diverse heritage. Living in London, she became a close friend to Michael Tippett

The wonderful @dan_kidane with also-wonderful Manchester Camerata in rehearsal.
It’s been a fantastic Focus Day so far here at Wigmore Hall. So rare to get a set of events so concentrated on one composer. Looking forward to this evening’s performance!
The most warm-spirited, generous and inimitable person — deeply saddened by her passing but happy that we met those precious few occasions. She made enormous contribution to our understanding of Irish music, inc. her beautiful book on Ina Boyle.
The Ina Boyle Society is deeply saddened by the passing of our dearest friend and Patron, Dr Ita Beausang.
Ita will be sorely missed and we send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Ita’s family at this time.
Codladh sámh, Ita.

My first time @hcmfuk and WOWZA — one of the most stimulating few days ever + @GBSRduo proving once again that they can’t be human(?!). Can’t recommend enough, whatever your tastes in music!
Last night's fantastic exhibition of the combined abilities of @GBSRduo and Twenty Fingers Duo gave us tenderness via Julia's Aglinskas + glorious pandemonium via @l_dunn1, showcasing amazing music from the UK + Lithuania.

@ProfKateLoder @OSoden Not all of her music is recorded, so it’s very difficult to get a complete survey, but what is out there requires a different approach to listening, I think. Learning more about Hepworth’s work though has helped me understand the kind of abstraction that Rainier achieves.
This not particularly exciting building on Ladbroke Road housed the pretty exceptional composer Priaulx Rainier (1903-1986), who lived between here and her studio in St Ives, Cornwall.
She owned a Zulu mask which apparently she’d put on at dinner parties to scare her guests.
Hurrah hurrah new music 🎉
Three stonkingly good concertos from Aníbal Vidal, Eden Lonsdale, and Alex Groves today. @BrittenSinfonia, soloists, and @tom_fh all doing golden work!
On this day in 1925, Composer Luciano Berio was born
This summer we heard his work ‘Cries of London’ performed by @carice_singers in their Londoner outfits!
It sets to music the sounds of the street criers of London’s markets - here’s a few of our favourite Cries 🧄
Happy birthday @BBCSingers 🎉
A beacon of choral music for people of all ages and from many different backgrounds, and a huge inspiration for me at least!
"On behalf of us all, Happy Birthday and thank you."
This week we celebrate 100 years of making music. A few friends stopped by to share their thoughts on our Centenary Celebrations. 🎉
Do you have a favourite memory of the BBC Singers?
@reecemcmahon And so many opportunities seem (to me at least) to be given out depending on who an organisation/individual knows, rather than an open process. Feels like such a divide between that and those who are striving to ensure fair access.
@PaulSpicer6@carice_singers Topped only by Grainger’s ‘The immovable Do’! (This knowledge might come in handy when next playing trivial pursuit I guess)
Wondering if there’s someone who could give consultancy on fair access & freelancers (in any field)? Would be great to discuss ideas for some policy I’m currently writing :)
Quick rant [ignition sequence, START]: some people in the audience didn’t have the patience for the music — fine (their loss) — but it’s SO annoying when they disrupt the concentration of others… talking, fidgeting, looking at phones. Argh.
@RolfHind’s ‘Sky in a Small Cage’ was astonishing this evening. Exhilarating throughout. I’m struggling to comprehend the vividness and variety of it all. Bravo to @RiotEns, Aaron and all cast!
