Foolish by Phil Foden, deserved to go, kicked out two-footed at Bruno Fernandes, clear red, “checked and confirmed by VAR” (@PLMatchCentre), violent conduct, three-game ban (inc LFC away). Officials' exchange: Ref Michael Oliver: “Red card Phil Foden – kick out into the body of Bruno”. VAR Matt Donohue: “That looks like a clear red card to me. Looks to be a secondary movement. Confirming the red card for Manchester City’s No 47.” Foden had to walk.

But… Fernandes incredibly fortunate to escape any punishment for initial provocation, kicking Foden twice. Is it a question of who milks contact most? Which team appeals to ref loudest? And why doesn’t VAR look at initial kick by Fernandes? No excuses for Foden’s kick - straight red - but decision-making inconsistent here. #MUNMCI

A huge number are really Scots-Irish — English and Scottish border stock, Protestant frontier people whose ancestors came out of the borderlands, were planted in Ulster, then pushed into Appalachia, Tennessee, Kentucky and the South.

Not Dublin. Not Cork. Not the tenements. A harder, older story of border clans, rifles, honour, feuds, distrust of authority and life on the edge of empire.

The green beer version of Irish-American identity hides a lot. For millions, the real roots are English, Scottish, Ulster, frontier, Presbyterian, hill country and rebellion.

Great day yesterday but I’m absolutely sick of the lies being promoted that MCFC didn’t sell out their allocation. Empty seats in corporate middle tier at CFC end predominantly but why promote these negative lies about fans who pay a fortune to attend games?

Those of us who tried to look beyond our own clubs when all of this was introduced warned others but all we got back was ‘you would say that you’re a City fan’. It was all ‘City are guilty we’re all okay’ without trying to understand what these controls were actually about.
