Breaking: Nearly 1,660 Afghans cleared for U.S. resettlement—including family members of active-duty U.S. military and unaccompanied minors—have had flights canceled after President Trump signed an executive order suspending refugee programs, Reuters reports.

The group includes Afghans at risk of Taliban retribution for supporting the former U.S.-backed government, said Shawn VanDiver, head of #AfghanEvac, and a U.S. official who spoke anonymously.

Thousands more Afghans approved for resettlement remain stranded in Afghanistan and Pakistan without assigned flights.

President Donald Trump has reversed sanctions on extremist Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, issuing an executive order to lift measures imposed by the Biden administration. Trump revoked Executive Order 14115, which targeted certain settlers accused of violence against Palestinians and Israeli activists. As of December 2024, the Biden administration had sanctioned 33 individuals and entities in the region.

Trump also voiced skepticism about the Gaza ceasefire, particularly whether he was confident all phases of the agreement would be implemented. He described the area as “a massive demolition site” and suggested it must be rebuilt in a fundamentally different way.
