For over twenty years, Xu Zhiyong has been a leading voice in China’s human rights movement, from the Open Constitution Initiative to the New Citizens Movement. Professor Kellogg will discuss Xu’s democratic vision in Beautiful China and how his work on rights and the rule of law led to a fourteen-year prison sentence for “subversion of state power.”

About the Speakers
Thomas Kellogg @tom_kellogg is executive director of the Georgetown Center for Asian Law and a leading scholar of legal reform, human rights, and constitutionalism in China. He previously led the East Asia Program at the Open Society Foundations and has written and taught widely on Chinese law and U.S.–China relations.
