Today I met @GeorgetownMrpi students on my 1st in person event during #COVID19. Lots of protocols, short time, few people.
🔹We discussed gaps in the literature on migration, and in policy responses and the key opportunities brought forth by migratory systems in the Region.
Yesterday we were honored to host @BeticaMunozPogo, director of @OAS_Inclusion, who discussed migration flows in #LatinAmerica and key policy opportunities for regional #migration.
Thank you to Dr. Betica for this great event and flexibility with all COVID restrictions!
The Darien Gap is considered to be the deadliest migration route in the Americas.
🔹Crossing it means facing assaults by gangs, sexual violence, despair.
👶 UNICEF also reported that 2021 broke the record in terms of the number of migrant children crossing that jungle.
Today we hosted leading economist @m_clem who discussed the economic causes and effects of #ForcedMigration.
There are proven economic benefits of #migrants on receiving countries.
Thanks to Dr. Clemens for leading this informative presentation!
