Today I attended a patient bleeding from an arterio-venous (AV) fistula. Although it’s not the commonest of calls for ambulance service, it’s the second in 2 months for me. A potentially life threatening bleed and treated as pictured. Tip: A lid from a sample pot (unused) is something which you may have to hand on an ambulance.

When pts describe their ICU delirium memories in our follow up clinic they are often complex and terrifying. It's great to hear how they felt their ICU diaries helped them understand their stay & how they are certain going into the garden helped them to feel normal again 🌻🌷🌳
Junior doctors start their careers on £29,384.
There is not a single Conservative MP who would be prepared to do their jobs for that salary.
If we’re not careful there won’t be a single junior doctor who is prepared to do so either.
It’s official! ICU have moved into the new unit. A big well done to all the teams involved. We know you have worked so hard in making sure the unit is a fabulous environment for our patients and staff @BarnsleyICU@BHNFTICURehab@barnshospital
Recently saw a teenager with such heavy periods she walks around with this to sit on in case she leaks.
Just to emphasise that this should be taken seriously, and treated, or referral made.
I look back @ these pictures… and it makes me sick to my stomach.
Not even 2 days before these were taking I was in the best physical shape of my life. Going to the gym, working with a personal trainer 5 days a week, and then suddenly, Jan 19, 2019 - my life changed. My life was on the line.
Unbeknownst to me, I formed a blood clot in my small intestine, which killed 85% of it. My organs started to fail, and I was ventilated and was put into an induced coma.
3 surgeons looked at me and told my family to say their goodbyes. My cousin Jerica and my sister in law Amanda fought tooth and nail to save my life. And finally, the 4th surgeon came in and said he’d take my case.
The reality is, I shouldn’t be here. Necrotic (dead) bowel can and IS typically fatal. If you survive; the chances of you having an ileostomy bag for the rest of your life is significant.
My surgeon completed multiple surgeries over the course of several hours… and because of him, he was able to reattach the 15% of small intestine that I had left.
Waking up months later with amnesia is not fun. So much id my life was robbed from me the day I got sick.
What happened in 2019 should have killed me; but it didn’t.
Listen to your body when something doesn’t feel right. Be your biggest advocate. You have to be.
#APS might have almost killed me; but I throat punched that heffa in the face and took my life back. It’s not easy. And most days are very hard. I live with chronic pain, reoccurring hospital stays, stomach/digestion/and bowel issues, food sensitivity, amongst anxiety and often depression. But I’m still here.
Do not give up on yourself, even when you feel like that is the only decision you have left. Fight and fight hard. Your life matters.

Our new ICU will enhance patient experience with more space, better lighting and décor, as well as enhanced provisions for patient privacy. All contribute to shorter stays, quicker discharges, and speedier recoveries in general.

Amazing to finally launch the ICU rehab garden today at KGH, so it can be official. Was joined by this lovely patient and all her family who could utilise the garden with a pet and grandchild visits 🥰#icu#icurehab#icurehabgarden#pettherapy
The Health Secretary knows just how strong NHS nurses are together so he’s threatening them with legal action to prevent them fighting against real terms pay cuts.
Please RT if this has only strengthened your support for nurses.
