<3 when oppressive/exploitative practices within the service industry are defended in the name of "good hospitality". E.g., bars that strictly enforce masks for employees but not for customers (with whom those employees are often forced to engage, unprotected). #CustomerService
@TrevorNews haha people on this thread clearly dont know how to react to an old rich powerful white man clumsily falling down some airplane stairs...always have to get all defensive, instead of just taking it fwiw and laughing a lot. Sure it might not be news but it's pretty dang hilarious.
what is the deal with aloof bartenders who - for no good reason -act like you are not there, when you are right in front of them? is it that hard to look up for half a second and say "hello" while mixing a drink or walking by? #bartender#service#bars#CustomerService#snubbed
when people learn that every indivdual personality exists as a nexus and representation of their surrounding psychosocial communal forces, we might start to understand and get along. #PeaceAndLove#agency#whoareyou#whoarewe#self#communitypower
@cyndigist@spaceE_squirrel@cspanwj how would concern for the future be analogous to interior decorating? ppl r acting like we just need to get rid of covid now, ignoring bigger roots of the crisis found at the core of our common practices and public policy.
@cyndigist@spaceE_squirrel@cspanwj i think what im promoting would be caring for the foundation vs. the interior, bec its about securing a sound structure for future generations, not deciding who is at fault for the bad plumbing or bickering over short term renovations.
The greatest crime in history is the widespread positing of "evil people" - a catering to egotism, resentment, & lust for pride/revenge. This crime was to justify extremist terror, coercion, and violence, all as a cover for impotence and cowardice. #Christianity#Evil#humanity
Twitter life: trying to make a point, getting straw-manned, seeing someone endorse the person who made the straw man, carefully restating the point, then ultimately being ignored. And colleagues wonder why I'm 50/50 on 'em. #friendship#Philosophy#phdlife#AcademicMentalHealth
@townsquare56@cspanwj That's irrelevant. They're natural killers whose death tolls are high, and with which we have to cope. Instead of dwelling on the numbers and blaming the general public for not masking or w/e, we should focus on improving public policy to mitigate disease/viruses in the future.
@bobbitalk@cspanwj Sometimes suicide occurs due to side effects of certain anti-depressants. In any case, those people taking the medications are clearly in need (otherwise they would not resort to risky medications). Let's look at the real culprit, i.e., that which leads to depression to begin...
@cspanwj I am appalled by the reactions to this. Does anyone care to wonder why (as Dr. Gordon pointed out) healthcare professionals are at a lowered risk of suicide, despite enormous stress? It's because they help people. They realize connectedness. They have purpose. #SuicidePrevention
@Paisley_Stokes @cspanwj Are you suggesting that nothing important can be said about the mental health crisis in the US unless it involves Trump? And I thought he was his only narcissistic enthusiast....
@thomas70116@cspanwj Suicide by contagion was ruled out as a highly contributing factor by Durkheim in his study on Suicide in the late 1800s. I'm not up to date on recent literature but it seems no one here is taking Durkheim's research into account...
