Rich and poor people have historically dressed differently mainly because of wealth, status, and social identity.
In history, clothing showed a person’s social class — rich people could afford expensive materials like silk, velvet, or fine wool, while poor people wore simple, durable fabrics like linen or rough wool. Wealthy classes used fashion to display power and privilege, often following royal or elite trends, while laws (like sumptuary laws) sometimes even restricted poor people from wearing certain colors or fabrics.
So, clothing became a symbol of class and hierarchy — a way to visually separate the rich from the poor throughout history. Nothing change 🤣😜
