We are pleased to share the highlights of the Subregional Workshop on Biodiversity Monitoring and Reporting, held from 27 to 30 January 2026 at RCMRD in Nairobi, Kenya.
The workshop, organized through RCMRD in its role as a regional technical and scientific cooperation support centre of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), provided an opportunity to share regional, national and local experiences and challenges in monitoring and reporting on ecosystem restoration in relation to Target 2.
The meeting was convened by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and with the technical support of the Society for Ecosystem Restoration (SER) and the Centre for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) and funded by the Government of the United Kingdom through the AIM4NatuRe (Accelerating Innovative Monitoring for Nature Restoration) initiative.

During the ongoing Validation and Feedback Workshop on Atlas Use under the #AAAA project, the County officers shared experiences using already developed knowledge products ( Fact Sheets, Bulletins, Feasibility Reports, and Gender-Selected Enterprise Designs)-highlighting how these tools are supporting planning and decision-making on the ground.
Guided sessions created space to reflect on existing workflows, while group discussions surfaced practical insights on strengths, challenges, and opportunities to further enhance usability, localization and impact.
