Congratulations to Justin Hall (right) on receiving his license as a professional surveyor. He has worked very hard, passing multiple exams since graduating from Troy with a Geomatics degree. He is a member of the team at @plsgroupinc and he has certainly made our faculty proud.
Grad spotlight! Justin Fulford from Geneva, AL is a May Geomatics grad. He served in leadership in the student chapter of the ASPLS including president and two-time member of Troy’s national survey team. He has become a survey technician with Patriot Survey and Infrastructure.
Getting ready for IMPACT to begin June 8. Nice to see students who are excited to be become surveyors or GIS professionals and show them all our technology and our little corner of the campus in Wallace Hall. It is not too late to sign up for IMPACT if you are coming to Troy.
We are back in action! Term 5 and Summer semester start today. IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO REGISTER! Some of our students are doing internships and headed to the great outdoors, while others are behind a laptop doing online classes. We wish them all success this summer!
It is dark and quiet on the third floor of Wallace Hall but if you listen closely you can almost hear the sounds as they slowly fade away.......
Sounds of all the laughter, lectures and lab prep that went on this past year. New voices will fill the air soon!
Stay safe, enjoy the GEOgraphic features as you travel, and remember to thank a GEOSPATIAL professional for mapping out the roads and highways to wherever you may go!
Well, tomorrow is the big day and we want to wish all our department graduates the best in their geospatial careers and their lives as they walk across the stage. Map out a path to success and happiness!
Finals are done. Seniors have left the building for the last time with promises to come back to see us.
Some walk on Thurs and others have internships first. We will miss each one and wish them the best. Hope the rest of our students have a great summer. See y’all in the fall!
CSE faculty celebrated the end of the semester and shared department highlights. GEO day, our Geomatics team’s trip to the NSPS competition and 50% of the students in UAS 2212 earning their FAA licenses were some of our highlights. And 15 different companies came to visits.
The student chapter of the ASPLS has elected new officers, so we want to bid farewell to this year’s officers and thank them making this such a great year for all the students in the department, not just the Geomatics majors. Your example will be hard to follow.
We are wrapping up another semester with all the tests, presentations, faculty meetings, and of course graduate celebrations. Even in the midst of the pressure, some students still have a good attitude with a thumbs up for the camera👍
One of our own GIS students was selected from the College of Science and Engineering to receive a Chancellor’s Fellowship. Congratulations to Rebecca Coleman who will receive scholarship funds to conduct faculty sponsored research during the 2026-2027 academic year with Dr. Niu.
We recognized those seniors who were not able to attend the banquet. All 13 have secured positions following graduation. The faculty admonished them to keep learning and come back to teach them about new technologies that will inevitably arrive on the geospatial scene.
The ASPLS Chapter hosted a senior banquet. Geomatics and GIS student enjoyed a great meal, and reflected on their time at Troy. We recognized their accomplishments and reminisced about their experiences. The faculty are incredibly proud of each of them and wish them success.
GIS Majors Becca Coleman, presented her research on Mapping Shorelines with Deep Learning as part of the College of Science and Engineering Research Day. The second photo shows how much her model for detecting marshes improved over time. We are very proud of Becca!
Our last company visit of the semester was with Greg and Jeanie Stirm from CTS Excavations. Their daughter Abigail is in the surveying program and they shared opportunities for our surveying students who much appreciated the pizza, cookies and swag.
We want to congratulate all the Surveying and Geomatics Sciences students who were awarded scholarships this semester. Each one is very deserving, and we trust they will make great surveyors when they complete their degree at Troy.
Mr. Allenback, the UAS Program director, is teaching UAS 2212 Piloting Familiarization. The class was week flying drones last week. Mr. Allenback reports that 5 of the students have earned their FAA Part 105 Pilot License since the class began. Looked like fun!
