1/ “Just drink more water” is skincare’s version of “have you tried turning it off and on again?”
It gets said constantly, explains almost nothing, and is technically not wrong in the same way most useless advice isn’t.
Let’s talk about why it rarely fixes a damaged skin barrier.
6/ Real barrier repair is structural and regulatory: supporting lipid organisation, normalising pH, reducing pressure, and giving the skin time.
Drinking water is supportive.
It is not corrective.
@BickuriB0x@omgsidewalks Yes similar principle. However vitamin deficiency is definitely a thing for some people. Being deficient in water generally isn’t.
For a long time I was stuck in a skincare black hole.
I kept adding, layering, and tweaking my routine. It got absurdly complex, and my skin just got worse. Reactive, tight, oily, unpredictable.
The turning point was a retinol purge that lasted way longer than any ‘normal’ explanation. So I stopped buying products and started reading the actual science.
That’s what led to https://t.co/ZPDxS5PXzB.
I built it to bridge the gap: deep mechanistic barrier biology, taken from primary research and clinical data, explained clearly for people with unstable, reactive skin. No hype. No endless product lists.
The first big output, what started as my personal rescue mission, is The Damaged Skin Barrier (out late May).

@YourPrimePath Skin responds to consistency the way a garden responds to water.
Expensive creams promise a shortcut, but discipline builds something that lasts. Most people prefer the promise to the work.
My Love is finally YOURS! I’m full of emotions but mainly EXCITED for you to finally listen and embrace me in my best self. https://t.co/O15RzVOQ20

I have @themathsfactor & we made it free for over 4 mths to all children in lockdown 2020. We had 500,000 children registered, refunded all subscriptions (£1/week) made by our regulars during that time, worked hard & lost a lot of money because we felt it was the right thing to do
