@goylim5@subarustevenz You see it all the time when people are then corrected or presented with the truth they bury their head in the sand rather than admit they misread it or were wrong.
@goylim5@subarustevenz Of course you can, it's confirmation bias. People want to read that labour is taxing them 22% on their savings without thinking for a second that it's ridiculous. Hence why this news story has got so much traction.
@goylim5@subarustevenz It is wilful ignorance, there is so often a deliberate choice in political debate these days to avoid acquiring the relevant facts or knowledge. If people did, they might not be reacting like Labour are taking 22% of their savings.
@goylim5@subarustevenz Correct, it's willful ignorance and an inability to think critically that's causing it. Just like every other knee-jerk reaction to any news.
@Okinawayanda@MingNoMerci@LovelyStuffFC@PolitlcsUK What are you talking about? It's a tax on the interest of cash in a stocks ISA. Nobody is taxing your actual cash.
This is simply the closing of a loophole to encourage people to actually invest in stocks.
@MingNoMerci@Okinawayanda@LovelyStuffFC@PolitlcsUK This tax is entirely avoidable, put your ยฃ20k cash into a cash ISA or buy stocks in a stocks and shares ISA. It's called tax avoidance, isn't that what all your heroes do?
If you want to talk about taxes to get rid of let's start with Stamp Duty or the ยฃ100k 60% threshold trap.
@MingNoMerci@LovelyStuffFC@PolitlcsUK It's not taxing the cash, it's taxing the interest on the cash in a stocks and shares ISA. You can still put your cash in a cash ISA and not get taxed. I wish you people were capable of critical thinking and not knee-jerking every time you see the word tax.
@bjblyth@ListerLawrence@robprogressive You're the idiot who doesn't understand what a marginal tax rate is. 57% for every ยฃ1 extra earned, not 57% on all salary. ๐คก
@kickingmustang@moving_charlie And you're confusing a perfectly competitive market with the real world. If my small town that I need to live in only has 5 houses available to rent and 1 landlord owns all these houses then they have the power to charge above a market with 5 different landlords.
