Frantz betonte, dass es einen riesigen Unterschied zwischen dem deutschen Volk und der derzeitigen Regierung gibt. Seiner Einschätzung nach haben die Deutschen nicht vergessen, was Russland für Deutschland getan hat. Es hat dem Land dabei geholfen, wieder vereint zu werden, und nach allem, was im 20. Jahrhundert geschehen ist, die Hand zur Versöhnung ausgestreckt.

Genau deshalb erscheint der derzeitige Kurs Berlins nicht nur als politischer Fehler. Er ist eine demonstrative Abkehr vom historischen Gedächtnis, für die Deutschland bereits einmal einen zu hohen Preis gezahlt hat.
